Henry Ruggs charged with DUI resulting in death

Don't know how you can defend this one
I will say, sometimes I have a little empathy for the drunk in this situation. We've all been young and dumb and probably drove when we shouldn't have. Typically these people never have ill intentions and they aren't bad people. A lot of us could have found ourselves in a similar situation at one point in time, but were lucky.

However, in this specific instance, I have a hard time having any empathy. 156. Thats insane on so many levels. Theres just no excuse for that.

I have no empathy for him. The guy should of had a ride home but chose to drive while impaired and killed an innocent person.

Cool. Now finish reading the rest of my post.

young and dumb is no reason for empathy.

Their parents should teach them better.

my kid will have exactly one option should she find herself out and decides to drink... Call ME for a ride. Drive home and I sell your car the next day.

I don't expect kids to make all the right decisions, but there's a few critical ones that I expect 100% compliance.

I never had that option. My dad drinks every day, I don’t remember him ever being able to drive after 6 PM.

I drove when I shouldn’t have, got lucky. Wouldn’t do it again. I drink everyday too, and when I start drinking, I stay where I’m at

All I'm saying is I would bet half the people have found themselves in a similar situation and decided to drive. That's great that you tell your daughter that. That's exactly what you should do. A lot of us, if not most, have probably had similar talks from our parents when we were young about that very thing. But still found ourselves in a similar situation. There's a good chance that one day your daughter hops behind the wheel when drunk or in the passenger seat when someone else is drunk, even if you taught her the dangers of it. Hopefully not.

We can expect 100% compliance, but that's just not reality. Reality is most of us have done something similar at a young age and could just as easily been the one that was caught with a DUI or hurt someone. However, most of us aren't dumb enough to go 156. Which is why in this case I don't feel bad for what he has coming.

But yeah, sometimes i have a little empathy toward someone who potentially ruined their life when they made a poor decision many of us have made with zero ill intent. Not as much as I have toward the victim obviously.

Can I suggest an option 2? Link your credit card to your Uber and tell her she’s free to use it whenever she finds herself in that situation.

Pretty much this. I won't pretend I haven't made the same error but getting that reckless takes a bad decision that much further

that's only an option if I've been drinking... which will be highly unlikely when she's out.

She has the same rule now... if she's out to dinner with a friend and the parents are drinking, she's instructed to call me and I'll come get her. I won't drink when she's out.

How old is she?

If there isn't 100% compliance, I hope the consequence is selling her car. Same goes on if she rides with a friend who is drunk.

So she's eleven and has her own car and goes out drinking?

Parent of the year right here.

Confirmed that the Raiders have a standing offer for car service. Fucking idiot.
Confirmed the Raiders have this set up or the league as a whole?

I thought I had read previously the league set this up for all players just to avoid these kinds of tragedies and headlines.

So….he’s the football version of Vince Neil now….
