Hurricane Ida

Georgia Power and Alabama Power were turned away from helping with Hurricane Sandy relief because they weren’t union.

But a generator was one of my first purchases after moving out of my parents house. Never lived anywhere that a hookup to city/county water, always had well water, so no power also means no water
Yeah. That would make a generator absolutely beyond essential. Does your water also need treatment coming out of the well?

Nah, it tastes better than any county water I’ve tried. There’s a couple filters you have to replace every so often that it goes through

Can’t have a tankless water heater though

Last winter our electricity was out for 14 days.
I thought that was as terrible as it gets.

What are these guys looking at, maybe months??
TWC was interviewing some head honcho for this stuff and he was saying like maybe could be 3 weeks or so. So that would be like September 21st (start of Fall) before most get electricity back on.

I would imagine, though, that many may still get some power restored earlier, but that MAIN Electricity Line Tower being totally down, along with ALL the 8 transmission lines down, that is gonna be quite the challenge!! :twitch:

Hurricanes absolutely suck.. yet my house is going to be 20 min from the beach.. I'm an idiot :(

Yeah... I like to live close to BIG bodies of water. BUT, I will definitely avoid the Gulf Coast for a permanent residence!

Mother Nature doesn't seem to "hold back" when it comes to the Gulf Coast! :heh:

Gotcha. I had a well once for a few months at a place and it needed serious water treatment. Units took their own electricity too. Not just to pump but filter.

Without it the water was FULL of sulfur and other hard metals that made it smell like shit.

Florida water….

North GA water ain’t bad. Filter is mostly fine pieces of sediment

If I’m basing it on limited experience once they have the main transmission lines up some will get power almost instantly. Some will be waiting well past Sept 21.

I have no idea how long that tower and cables will take. In my mind it can be anywhere from around a week to 3 weeks. No clue.

That’s not good at all. I had imagined cables being down off an intact tower.

I read there were 8 such high capacity lines running into the city and all 8 went down. Not sure if the other 7 are this bad….but it’s bad.

When we do lose power from a storm here the line men that come in from all over are literal hero’s to us. Last Hurricane I saw line trucks from KY or TN heading down the turnpike and….I won’t lie….something got in my eye.

That might sound totally first world spoiled to some, but this time of year and after a big wet storm the heat and humidity is doubly brutal.
I know that crews from NH left 3 days before the storm made land fall to head down there to assist in rebuilding/repairing the grid and I know that we always appreciate the crews that come from all over the country to help us when the winter storms cause chaos with our power lines. I've seen trucks from as far away as Texas and OK in years past.

Terrible.

Should probably relocate the LSU-Florida game to the swamp just to be safe.
That could still happen. I was watching last night and they were telling of the storms names with "I" and how many of those names have been retired. All of them happened in October, so there's plenty of time for another storm like this one. Damn.

As tough as it’s become to find these days or really is a “faith in humanity restored” thing. I know there is benefit for them to put the time in doing things like this….I’m just glad they are hear.

I can tell you when they are here they eat and drink for free…when they get to chance to do either.
