Exodus: Gods and Kings

Well shot and well-acted. But it just seems like this movie had a meta agenda instead of trying to be a good movie. Was Christian Bale and the other actors duped into making this, and it was changed in editing? This movie cast no new light at all on the subject matter. Weak.

This movie really delivers for being such a paper thin premise and reason for being. Super well paced, great action, great Cgi, you actually care about characters and motivations. It’s just good.

I gotta think that one of these days someone will try again to make Taylor Kitsch a movie star.

The only quiet brooder who ever qualified as a “star” was James Dean, and he only lasted for 3 movies. If he didn’t die, he would have fizzled out like all others of his type.

Robert Pattinson MAY be the one to finally break through, but he has been advancing super slow.

I find myself agreeing with you. It is one of my guilty pleasures and I'll usually watch the rest if I surf into it.

And it has Brooklyn Decker...

Completely pointless, but I like these stories…

The amputee officer who helps them on land was an actual officer who lost his legs in combat. This was his first acting gig, and didn’t act again for over 10 year (about). He has recently resurfaced as a reoccurring character on NCIS LA.

Not sure why I thought this was worth adding, but there you have it…

Oh I didn't say I thought he should be a movie star, I'm just surprised that someone in Hollywood hasn't rolled those dice again

Irish family tried to escape their circumstances and family traditions during the Troubles. Fassbender and Gleason are on top of their game.

Probably the worse Hitchcock movie I’ve seen. Tone is all over the place and plot conveniences abound. Besides it being expertly shot and Grant’s charm, it’s like a bad Roger Moore era Bond flick.

I already have a career. I won't be an urban planner.
I routinely take college courses to stimulate my brain and the current course is "Cities in Cinema".
The Third Man was filmed in post WWII Vienna and something about the sewer system being popular.
Did any of it pertain to how they make the sausages?

Gitmo prisoner gets a lawyer. This movie is lightweight and does a disservice to the subject matter. Nothing is really illuminated. It turns the focus into the lawyers, and it doesn’t even highlight that well. You can skip.

Kevin bacon, Colin Firth in a mystery noir film with a horrid Knives Out style script where the reveal is all done in crappy flashbacks and narration. All too convenient and hack. The main actress is also terrible.

Such a terrible movie. All mysterious tone, then the plot just puked at you in a rush at the end. Totally convoluted plot, gratuitous sensuality. Still better than the Knives Out movies though.

I'd call it a passion project to be honest.

I thought casting God as a child was bit much.

Not a movie but a limited series on Netflix:

Treason

Charlie Cox plays a guy that gets elevated to head of MI-6 and is potentially compromised by a Russian agent.

It's a good watch but at times strays from reality and forces the plot. Usually British shows are written much better but its worth watching.

Not a lot happening in the sports world this weekend.

So I broke out LOTR director's cut Blurays.

I thought my house was coming down when they were running from the Balrog in Moria. And it looked superb on the new large unit.

Something about using the ARC channel seems to make it sound even better. The Nazgul were very fucking cool when they flew over.

15/10

remember turning this off when it first hit HBO thinking it was stupid but rewatched the other day, actually finishing it, and it’s not terrible. The best part of the movie is when they take the USS Missouri out. It was complete BS but fun.

Super perfectly paced. Told the story it wanted to tell smartly. You’ll love it.

Watched Truman Show this weekend. Haven’t seen it since the theaters.

Amazing that that movie was made before the craze of reality TV. Survivor was still a couple tears away, as was Big Brother. Real World and Road Rules were really only ones that existed at that point.
