Last movie you watched and rating (1-10)

I really liked Pitts American-esque monologue segment at the end.
Yeah....I forgot that. I was so wrapped in my nit picks at that point that I didn’t fully appreciate it.

I think that was me.... but it was so good lol.

So do you have an actual rating system? I noticed that you go down to the .1 on a decimal system and was curious of how you broke it down. I try to keep it to whole numbers and only use .5 when I really feel like it was better than the whole number beneath, but still not quite the whole number above.

Just how I feel where to score something in comparison to other movies I've watched.

The Way Back - A sad, inspirational story that hits a little close to home for me. The acting is solid, the story isn't told in the best way and the movie definitely ends lacking. Good, but could have been a fair amount better.

6.5 out of 10.

Another movie from one of my favorite Korean director but this one is in English and stars Nicole Kidman. Been meaning to watch it for awhile but didn't finally get around to it until last night. A but of a slow burner that takes a pretty dark turn. I enjoy slow burn movies but I was largely disinterested in this one for most of the movie until maybe the last 40 or so minutes. Maybe I'll look back at this one in time and rate it higher but for now it didn't leave too big of an impression on me. Also any rated R Nicole Kidman movie that doesn't get her nude is just a wasted opportunity.

Manhunter

6.7

Movie from 1986 that going into it I thought was the original version of Silence of the Lambs and SotL was actually a remake of of the movie but I quickly realized that this is actually the original version of Red Dragon. I prefer the remake Red Dragon vwrsion. The Michael Mann version of the ending though I might actually like more than the ending in Red Dragon. The two movies do share a lot of scenes but Red Dragon just a better made and acted movie.

Infamous. 6.5

I can't compare it to Capote, a movie that covered the same material a year before, but I generally liked it. The Capote characterization at times was cartoonish but showed some depth at times. Sandra's Bullock's Harper Lee was a pro actress, not glorified summer stock bit. Daniel Craig was outstanding. All in all worth the time.

I Care A Lot

It was a solid 8. Good fun! Was hoping both those bitches got what was coming to them in the end though.

You're Next - I had seen it before, but only once and it was a long time ago. The acting is sketchy and there are a few plot problems, but all in all it isn't terrible. The effects were solid, the build of the main protagonist worked, the ending was ok though it felt like it was put on there for a sudden twist/wow factor - it didn't feel genuine to the story to me (idk, just a feeling I guess), it felt more of an impulsive move in the writing. Solid movie, but the acting is very bothersome for me lol. 5.5/10

The Collector - First off, I forgot that movies used to have intro credits lol. This one seemed to last a while. Anyway, love the idea, though I feel like it is a little much. Boobytraps are always fun in horror movies, but this seemed too elaborate, cost-ineffective, time-ineffective, etc... I am sure you are like 'you're overthinking the movie' lol. I am not a fan of movies that attempt to pull on your heartstrings on both sides. On one side we have a little girl lost in the midst of all these horrible things and her entire family dying and on the other we have our protagonist who turns out to be a thief but is doing it to help his family. So right off of the bat, I know I am probably going to be disappointed story/ending-wise as either the little girl or the protagonist is going to die and we already know the likelihood of who that will be. Sure enough, the ending rolls around and we see the protagonist be carried away. This movie is called the Collector, he collects people... what does that even mean? We are never shown. He takes the protagonist, but was it because he was the last one he could get or was it because he was impressed by his tenacity? Is this an OCD thing? Not sure it matters. There is also the point with the Collectors eyes, what is going on there? Towards the end, in the mirror scene, it seemed like they had a POV shot and his vision was blurry, but might not have been a POV shot idk. Anyway, it seems as if the Collector should be blind and that makes it even more ridiculous, is there a point to that or is it just to make him look/seem scarier? The storm was very manufactured and cliched. This probably sounds like there is a lot I am complaining about, but I did enjoy the movie. I actually wanted to watch the sequel right after, but it wasn't being streamed. The acting was good, at least from the protagonist (who is the main one you see for 80% of the movie). It's got some nice boobs in the movie lol, no credit given there, but none taken away amirite lol. I think I will give it a 5.5/10 - much like with You're Next, it had a lot of good stuff (even if I didn't mention much) but it also had a lot of bad stuff, but the bad stuff showed potential if that makes sense (for both movies).

Both of these were decent, but could have been a lot better I feel.

Darkest Hour

7.6

Well acted and gives an interesting look into how Britain came to enter WW2. Not sure how much of it is historically accurate though so I'll just have to take the movies word for it. One very brief scene that stood out to me was how it was giving an over the head panning view of a countryside being bombed that eventually transitioned into the eyes of a dead soldier on the ground that was pretty cool. Not the kind of movie for more of those shots but has me interested to check out some of this directors other work.

Been meaning to check this one out for awhile. Quality made film but not too much stood out to me as that memorable.

Joe

actually a pretty good flick. When Nic Cage wants to act, he is very good. Tye Sheridan also did a very good job. He is a real up-n-comer. The guy who played Tye’s father totally stole the show, though. He is a dead ringer for Jeff Daniels. I was positive it in fact WAS Daniels until the credits rolled. Turns out it was a legit homeless dude from the area they were filming. Sadly, he died shortly after filming. He apparently got a lot of accolades at the time the movie came out.

Anyway, it was a dark film. The story was alright, but the acting really carried it.

7/10

48 Hrs......AAA+.....A great combination of action and comedy....

Eddie Murphy ( a wisecracking convict) and Nick Nolte ( a hard nosed cop) made a great team...........

Must see for anyone who has not seen it.....

Dark City

i get a 7.4 not focking your boat, but why bother watching again unless you weren't present for it in the moment? at which point, you already saw it, so what's the point? that said, i think you're rating if fair.

the invisible guest was a movie i missed that's now on netflix and worth the watch.

Some movies where it doesn't come together until the end plot wise sometimes you don't like as much the first time but you watch again at some point and you say oh alright, I actually like that.

I feel like Dark City has that potential.

The Witch . Fucked up. Ending made me say " what the fuck" out loud . Start of the movie is creepy as hell. One of the better movies I've seen the last few years for sure

Funny thing....I looked this up to see about watching it soon. Why does the girl in it look familiar. We are watching the Queens Gambit this evening. It’s the same actress ha.

Yep. Anya Taylor . You should definitely check it out. I'm pretty tough to impress movie wise and I really liked it a lot

Embrace of the Serpent

Great movie. Finally found a movie that I haven't heard of that was very very good. Too many mediocre movies lately that I have watched. This movie switches back and forth to two different time lines 40 years apart in the Amazon jungles. An odyssey movie of sorts. Beautiful imagery despite being just black and white. This movie just had my full focus from start to finish.

Free to watch on Amazon Prime as well.

Finally watched Inception.

Cool idea for a movie, but it was very scattershot and not great character development. Still pretty good.

7.5/10
