Lincoln Riley is a dumbass

I don't think he'll ever disclose his reason(s) publicly. He may to his inner circle.

Yeah, there are likely a lot of reasons. He apparently wasn't on board with moving to the SEC, so that likely played a role. Also, his family may have wanted LA. From what has been said, Fickell wasn't interested in USC because his wife and family prefer the Midwest. May have been the opposite for Riley.

And, end of the day, if what has been tweeted about the package is even close to what he actually got...that would be damn near impossible to turn down.

May have been. When the move was announced last July, both Riley and Sark were eerily quiet about the move IIRC.

Looking back it sure seems the decision to move was all done above any coaches. ADs, Pres, Boards made that call w/o input from the rank and file. But that is just looking backward and could be illusions.

With the Contract Details now leaked, this should end my thread.

With a $ 15 Million contract that had USC buy his houses up and provide him a house in LA, the financial stuff in the OP was though of and taken care of in the contract plus more. USC offered an amazing deal and it would be hard for anyone to turn it down. The Chip Kelly move was even MORE of a headscratcher but both make sense once you get the full contract details. It is unprecedented to see coaches leaving blue chip programs that are winning at a high level to go to another blue chip program. Take out the money and both look like lateral moves (or in the case of Notre Dame to LSU, that almost looks like a downgrade). However, we are in a new age with massive and unprecedented contract offers as well. Jimbo Fisher type hiring is quickly becoming the norm in the sport.

I still disagree with some of the NIL discussions. I get that there are opportunities in LA but I am not sure all of the opportunities cited will translate to CFB endorsements. I could be totally wrong. People seem to not understand my argument there because they keep just citing to LA having opportunities without telling me how these opportunities will translate to USC.

A lot of people, obviously, don't like me on this board as a poster so I can take a vacation from everything and it will make a lot of people happy. My apologies for even posting this thread and for the negative comments to anyone on here. I have a good life, I don't need internet drama. (Heck, I just got a bonus last week). If this isn't fun, then why be here?

I talked to my wife about it and there really isn't any reason to get upset about stupid stuff on the internet. At first, I was having fun in this thread but it started to turn south quickly. Good luck everyone. I may post a couple of Tennessee-centric items but I am definitely going to avoid being on here. I am doing well at work and I missed a project posting on here that I really should have been working on. I got it done this morning though.

Not sure why I put so much energy into an Oklahoma vs. USC discussion anyways. I guess it was because I felt like people were not really reading my posts, at least based on the responses that I was receiving which often times were very off-topic. Maybe, I wasn't clear in my explanations.

Well. Atleast one less SEC fan around.

More local opportunities in LA means more top recruits wanting to go to the top LA college. What’s difficult to understand?

For the record, I'm not defending Riley. Seems as if the move was in the works for awhile. At the least, probably the reason for the subpar showing vs BU, as it's been confirmed that he agreed to the USC move about a week before that game. I had posted back then that he seemed to have some shit going on. Some speculated marital troubles. Some LSU transfer. His distraction obviously affected OU's performance the past few weeks. As far as moving, I have no problem with that. Just the timing that sucks. Do that shit on your time...not during the season! OU will land another good coach. Perhaps one that can bring another Natty home. The King suggests Leach. Others think Venables. Many love Stoops, of the Bob variety. Once again, as many options as there are opinions.

You were clear but you were also wrong.

When you have everyone on the thread telling you that you are wrong that should be a sign that you need to re-evaluate your position. The fact that you wouldn't makes it clear you think you are the smartest guy in the room and that is never going to work out for you.

It's amazing that you can't see it and are determined that the problem is we don't understand your point instead of we don't agree with it.
Get your shit done at work, rub some dirt on your wounds and just try to learn how to be a better poster. It ain't rocket science.

Entering the transfer portal?

Imo, that's one of the problems with the early signing period. Sure, it provides an opportunity for a kid to sign with someone and get some of the recruiters off their back if that's what they want.

But it also changes the timeline of a coaching hire because there really isn't a lot of time to think about it or wait until after bowl games etc..

Without the early signing period, Riley likely coaches through the bowl game, then moves on to USC. Brian Kelly likely coaches ND through their bowl game or cfp appearance, then heads to LSU.

If anyone is interested, apparently Lincoln Riley is going to be interviewed on Cowherd in about 30 minutes.

From what I've heard others state, Riley was signed and out the door before OU could even put together a competing offer. That jumps out the most to me.

USC can probably offer more money, and certainly Norman, OK can't really compete with LA when it comes to residence. Cheaper, sure, but I mean cmon. Still, coaches don't leave blue blood programs at the height of their powers very often without some sort of scandal prompting their removal.

The thing that seemed most odd to me was just how shady and secretive Riley kept things. We will probably never know the full story from all points of view, but to me the only explanation is that something internal soured in a bad way over the offseason and beginning of this season b/t Riley and OU to the point where he was actually looking for an exit around midseason.

No way that USC could outbid Oklahoma because you guys about to double your network revenue when you join the SEC and the bee deal goes into effect. Short term it might be tight but the cash would be there.

He wanted out and he played LSU against USC to drive up the price as much as possible. He is set for life now and honestly doesn’t have to win a game because his cash is guaranteed.

He gets to live in a free house in LA (that his wife has seen on all the Bravo shows) makes insane money that will set him up for life, family can hit the beach when they want and he gets to play a PAC schedule at the helm of the big dick in the conference.

This is all about Riley and how easy can he make his life.

The move to the SEC was the likely catalyst, imo. From what has been said, Riley was against that. Someone else (I believe an OU fan) said that it seemed like the decision was made with no input from Riley...maybe that pissed him off? Then along comes USC with "an offer he can't refuse" and bailed him out.

I agree, you don't usually see a blueblood lose a coach like Riley unless it's to retirement or the NFL. But it looks like this is changing things. I mean, the day after Riley to USC, we now have Brian Kelly to LSU...I wonder if another blueblood loses their coach to Notre Dame? Probably not, because they don't want to deal with the entrance requirements...but who knows. It's still a prestigious job. Maybe OU poaches someone?

wait.. he wanted his input about conference affiliation? LOL.. He probably would have if he was able to win a CFP championship.. but those decisions are up to the way higher ups.

Seems most likely that Venables and Fickell are on the move. But most likely went out the window within the last few days, so who the hell knows.
