I'll chime in here for what it's worth. There were no ultimatums I ever heard mentioned by anyone either privately or officially. What I was hearing were frequent complaints about Grinch and Bedenbaugh. Grinch couldn't coach the team to tackle for some reason and the soft coverages were just more of the same-old, same-old. At times the D would shine brightly and then suddenly go cold. It was hot/cold and it was hard to understand; that's what the complaints were about. As for Bedenbaugh, he bragged before the season that this year's offensive line was the best he'd ever seen. However, they proved to be fat, slow and prone to stupid penalties game after game after game against mediocre competition that a lot of people were fearful was a portent of serious problems in the SEC. People were questioning if Bedenbaugh would be as good against better competition as they knew we would need to be. The main knock on Lincoln Riley was "he's too soft". Fair or not that was the main complaint. But, again, I never heard about any "ultimatums" and I commiserate with quite a few people about OU sports.
