Unless there’s negligence here on the part of UM, I’m failing to see how the school is responsible here. An employee was using information stored on a 3rd party database he broke into by deciphered login. Using stored information to then try and guess, and reset, social media login information of targeted athletes to try and steal their photos. And he started doing so in 2015, 7 years before he was hired at Michigan.
I did see a news clip that indicated there may have been a report of unusual email activity to the school in a student athletes account that may be linked to this. If the school failed to investigate that fully, then maybe there’s some responsibility there. But otherwise, I think people are trying to draw lines and conclusions that don’t exist based on other things happening at the school.
Weiss seems to be a gross dude with serious problems but otherwise lead a totally normal life with few red flags that would suggest he’s capable of or involved in something like this.
