because inappropriate use is a super broad statement and they clearly talk about what is in and out of that scope later in the SPg. end users are essentially self policing, following standard practices and the consequences of not doing so is swift termination.

If I were to set up a bitcoin mining operation on UMs campus, they would absolutely be monitoring that inappropriate use and look to stop it.

I already told you how i suspect he was caught. Quarterly scans of data on machines looking for unprotected sensitive data. If he had 150,000 people’s data store on his machine, that would absolutely be caught during a scan.

I get it, you’re too dumb to understand this. You don’t need to chime in to prove so. You would be wise to read the entire document he linked to and not just the opening statement. Specifically how they plan to enforce this, what is in scope and who’s responsible for various aspects of enforcement.

I worked for a company with 70,000 employees. I guarantee if someone was doing this on our system, it would not have taken our IT department almost 2 years to catch it.

If someone downloaded something unapproved, it was next day.

If Michigan was only doing this quarterly, it's prima facie negligence.

Michigan runs quarterly data scans for sensitive data and asks users to move them to delete or move private folders. That’s it. What flagged this was most likely the quantity.

And he did this for over 6 years at the Ravens. A private company.

You've been literally wrong about everything since this thread started.

Early on you were telling everyone that wasn't even Stalions on CMU's sideline ("a lot of guys look like that"), and that whomever that was was not even wearing recording sunglasses at night ("scoreboard reflection"). Then you went on to say the Michigan lawyers were gonna sue the pants off the Big 10 and NCAA.

The only questions are what the final penalties are gonna be for illegal scouting of over 50 future opponents, and how much Michigan pays for these civil suits?

Warrant have been exercised, and if there are any arrests a lot of questions will be answered. Did it involve football operations? Michigan may not be held accountable, but if this goes to trial or a a plea bargain negotiation is agreed upon, Michigan WILL be named in lawsuits. Michigan has the deep pockets. Hiring, retention, training supervision are all going to come into play. As a Grandfather of a female college athlete, my opinion is leave the students alone (unless they are committing crimes).

You're always straight forward and level headed.
I don't see a parallel between what this creeper was doing and it benefitting the football program. He'd have to have been sharing his material with people in the football program and even that's a reach implying the football program was getting some kind of on-field advantage from it.

And as you've posted numerous times, the NCAA will ultimately make the decision on the severity of the illegal scouting of future opponents scheme.
It's my opinion the severity will come down to 'Who knew what beyond Stalions?'
Criminal and Civil courts will make the decisions on the creeper issue.

The danger in sharing with other members of the football staff or anyone else in or out of Michigan is they may be charged as well. Even if they are never convicted, that's a hard thing to erase when applying for a job.

Unless there’s negligence here on the part of UM, I’m failing to see how the school is responsible here. An employee was using information stored on a 3rd party database he broke into by deciphered login. Using stored information to then try and guess, and reset, social media login information of targeted athletes to try and steal their photos. And he started doing so in 2015, 7 years before he was hired at Michigan.

I did see a news clip that indicated there may have been a report of unusual email activity to the school in a student athletes account that may be linked to this. If the school failed to investigate that fully, then maybe there’s some responsibility there. But otherwise, I think people are trying to draw lines and conclusions that don’t exist based on other things happening at the school.

Weiss seems to be a gross dude with serious problems but otherwise lead a totally normal life with few red flags that would suggest he’s capable of or involved in something like this.

Finally read an article today about Matt Weiss. HOLY HELL! I was thinking he was hacking into people's emails through the universities network. This guy had to hack the encrypted code from a 3rd party contractor network.

Just doing that didn't get him access to the athletes pictures, etc. He then had to either hack in the athletes account or find a way to circumvent the password and reset it.

Arguably the craziest thing in the story. A married father of 3, making $850,000 a year -- he didn't get the pics and the flood the internet with them, causing a lifetime of embarrassment for those involved. He didn't use the pics to blackmail the athletes involved and get rich off the pics. He didn't trade the pics with others on the internet in some dark web creeper room.

He kept them for himself -- labeled them by school, sport, body type, etc. and he has been doing it since 2015 until he was caught, collecting info on athletes from 100 different schools and universities. WTF. This guy needs to put in front of the firing squad. Imagine all the women who find out some creep has been stealing their pics. Imagine his poor wife and kids. He has a son and 2 daughters -- those poor kids are stuck dealing with the trauma of a piece of shit dad who will be locked away from decades for being a perverted thief.

I had zero clue it was this in depth. Does Matt Weiss not know that you can get an endless supply of "P"orn on the internet? What a sick bastard.

That’s what I don’t agree on. Why not the ravens? He arguable broke into the database originally while at the ravens, went undetected for 6 years before being hired by Michigan and continuing the same thing. I think the 3rd party company who let him have undetected access for 8 years is more responsible here.

How would anyone employing him know he had access to this 3rd party database?
