After seeing the "guitar porn" thread (which is great, BTW), I thought I'd start something here so that all the music playas on this site could share some stories and what not. That way, we can keep the guitar porn site to just guitars, as I'm guessing it was meant to be.

Instrument(s): keyboards, hand drums, chromatic harmonica, guitar (not so much now because of focal dystonia)

Style(s): jazz, jazz-fusion, rock, blues, world

Primary Influences: Weather Report, ELP, Jan Hammer, Jeff Beck, Jean Luc Ponty

I played guitar for 25 years before focal dystonia in my right hand came along and said, "uh uh, you ain't doin' that no mores". After a nice bout of depression, I finally cut my losses and picked up keyboards (9 years ago) and hand drums (3 months ago, I bought my first bongos, but I've been kinda/sorta hand drumming for years and years without actually owning an instrument). I also started to dabble in chromatic harmonica; I still play it occasionally, but it is on the back burner these days.

Et toi?

Anyone familiar with this? We could do a hoopla jam.

I've have an account there from a couple of years ago. TBH, I was thinking the same kind of thing; hoopla band...lol I know we have a bunch of players from tHoop; whether or not they'd be interested is anybodies guess right now. I have an absolute shit ton of loops we could pass around as .wav files, although, I don't know how many people actually are familiar with DAW's.

Figured everyone at least has GarageBand or something similar these days.

Pro Tools has a free version that would work perfect for anything like this if you're on a PC. The learning curve isn't really too steep as I've used both the free and paid versions.

I played alst sax in junior high for 2 years. 1st chair for like a month once.

I never made it to first chair, JoeyJoJo had mad trumpet skills. But I played Whiter Shade of Pale, trumpet solo at the Silverdome during a Motor City Bowl. Keyboards were replaced by me in this arraignment.

The crowd called out for more.

Holy chit. We now have a bass player, a keyboard player, a small horn section, and some drum loops. This could be the next "Tower Of Power" or "Chicago" in the making!

I taught myself how to play guitar. Which was a bad decision because I did not know how to play it. I was a shitty teacher. I should never have went to me.

I will front that shit, and y'all will be terrified, nightly.

I once met Bob Dylan. It was in a record store, and I couldn't believe it. He just stood there, in front of me, looking for some vinyls.

I was afraid, but approached him, and said hello. He responded hello and told me a lot of music stuff, he really liked the Beatles.

Then it struck me. Holy Crap! He was not Bob Dylan. He didn't even look like him. I guess I was stoned....

To be honest, the first two lines of that post seemed to indicate that there was going to be some kind of homo-erotic affair to follow, kind of like the old Penthouse mag stories would start out. The 3rd line in this post never actually ruled that out. Are you a writer for Ozark?

I play fiddle and mandolin at a high level. I can play 3 chords on the guitar, I've never really taken the time to really learn the guitar.

Background is bluegrass.

3 chords and a capo and you can play in any bluegrass band.

I play a little guitar!

I picked up a guitar for the first relatively recently. I just wanted to play some John Prine songs. I accomplished that. I also learned the Jerry Reed finger picking style, but three chords, so can't play a lot of his songs.

Whenever I play with others, it's always either the fiddle or mandolin, mostly the fiddle.

Played drums back in the day.

Was influenced by John Bonham, Chester Thompson, etc.

Led Zeppelin was for most of my life my favorite band of all time. I mean look at the talent there...Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John "Boom Boom" Bonham and the great John Paul Jones.

Freaking loved them and had all their albums and played them constantly throughout the years...I still do to this day....

So imagine my disappointment later in life when I discovered they ripped off other musicians music over the years and just about every song was plagiarized. That's cold blooded!

But why? The band had all that talent and yet needed to rip off other acts for their material? Were they just too lazy to create their own without stealing others work?
