I'm sure Alabama is a good school for the South. They'd rank dead last in the B1G in academics. I don't think people grasp how difficult it is to get into alot of the B1G schools.

Northerners aren't superior, the schooling, as a whole, is superior in the B1G. There are a select few in the South with a solid academic reputation and elite schools like Vandy. Alabama is definitely not one of them though.

I graduated with a 3.85 and had a 31 on my ACT and didn't get into UM (I was "wait listed"). That's how ridiculous it is to get into some of the B1G schools. Northwestern is even harder to get into than UM.

I despise OSU as much as any UM fan, but I also know what we will need to beat Georgia and a WR to stretch the field, the way Jameson Williams did for Bama is what we need.

After seeing the game plan we came up with against Iowa -- i'm confident we will be coming with something new for the CFP game. Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Dabo is a class behind me by year, but we had some classes together, he was working as a GA for Stallings when he was getting his MBA and I worked in the SID office, so I knew him more from that, not a lot of free time for GA's so he didn't hit a lot of the social events. Dabo was probably the least well-known player in our class, we had a few others, the only starter off the '92 team was Matt Hammond. I knew him better when he was working for AIG Real Estate in Birmingham before he went to Clemson in the early 2000's when I was working for a Developer in Pelham.

Jury is still out on the SEC, but I lean on them being overrated as well.

I've always felt that "conferences" were not accurately "rated" for the most part. Too many times the whole conference is perceived as "bad" only because of the bottom or perceived "good" only because of the top. JMO.

The only way to potentially avoid a rematch of Georgia vs Bama is hope someone beats them. If they don’t then everyone is going to be screaming to expand the playoff. Either way CFB wins I guess.

Not me. I did in 2011 because neither had to beat another team in a playoff game prior to playing each other. They got the right to play each other via a popularity contest. This way they damn well earn the right on the field in a semifinal game against teams from other conferences. Big difference to me.

My son and his frat brothers had GPAs and ACTs higher than yours ... they chose Bama. Son going to med school. His frat brothers going med school, law school, MBAs, great jobs with Dell, Mercedes, etc. The point you are missing isn't that B1G schools are harder to get into ... they objectively are. So are the schools in the ACC and PAC. You're posting as if people getting degrees from southern schools are somehow lesser than those at your northern schools that are "ranked" higher. All my cousins went to Illinois. They are farmers. Damn good ones. I know millionaires and billionaires who went to SEC schools, and I know broke ass losers who went to B1G schools (and Ivy, and Vandy). The point is that when you come on here putting down certain schools in general, you are missing the point that anyone can get a good education wherever they go so long as they search it out.

One last thing and I am done on the subject ... college, for the most part is a scam. I should know, I am paying about $72K per year in tuition for one son, and I know he can learn what he is learning on the Internet or as an intern. But, I also know the value of the paper on the wall. And once you get your first job, that paper doesn't mean much specifically, but means a ton generally. I pay $72K per year for him to make connections, have a shit ton of fun, and learn a little along the way. He's doing all three, but I listed those in the order of importance and so far it's working out quite well.

Where most Michigan grads live.

Obviously, this is more diverse than Alabama, particularly because of the large international student pop, but the fact remains that it is also a state school serving a state and most of its graduates stay in the state.

I never said for a second that Michigan wasn't a better school than Alabama, but if you're looking at average salaries you're not getting the whole picture. The average starting salary in Michigan is also higher than in Alabama. Michigan is also better than most Ivy League schools as well because there is a lot less public sector employment and Michigan is a state with a large business base....doesn't make Michigan better than an Ivy...or worse for that matter. The fact remains that the education you get at any university is not significantly different and is largely determined by you.

I didn't want to live in Midland either...that's why I quit when they wanted me to take a promotion there. Nothing against Michigan, other than my dislike of snow and preference for flip flops.

Side note: Bernie Madoff went to Alabama, but he doesn't do much hiring these days.
