But Wilcox doesn't have a catch phrase.Obviously… I wouldn’t expect they’re reading this or care about my opinion.
Neither of those things are ever guaranteed, but I got your point. My point was in their shoes I’d much prefer Wilcox to Kelly, if that wasn’t clear.
Is it Dan Lanning? Next coach?
It could be. One of the great young coaches in football right now. Gotta get a quality OC to pair with him if Oregon goes down that path
Chill, Mr. OlyDuck ... FWIW, I was just being a bit facetious with that post. Ya know... splashy unis = splashy hire. I guess it "could" mean a splashy name also. The line gets blurry after awhile after all these OD Ducks threads.what in the world gives you the idea Oregon wants a splashy hire?
mike bellotti? Chip kelly? helfrich? taggart? cristobal?
How do you know this?
Kirby has been calling the shots on defense. i.e. Lanning has been coaching what Kirby says to coach.
Saying Lanning has done a great job being a right hand man would be more accurate, no?
No one knows how any coordinator will translate to HC. Ever. How do you know this?

People that know a lot more about football than you agree with my characterization. Highly respected in the coaching world and an ace recruiter.
No one knows how any coordinator will translate to HC. Ever.
Still you have to take educated risks at some point.
Does this sound like Lanning's been running that defense by himself?
Why didn't Kirby give him one word of mention? He didn't want Oregon to come in and steal him? LOL

Kirby Smart reveals key change on defense for Georgia in 2021
Kirby Smart made some changes on Georgia's defense this year. The schematic and non-schematic differences have resulted in great results.www.on3.com
I’ll take the words of those in coaching circles over some dumb ass on a messageboard

One Definition of "Splashy":
"attracting a great deal of attention; elaborately or ostentatiously impressive"
So... one way or the other, Oregon definitely needs a BIG hire (splashy or not) and Lanning, if that's the one you end up with, might actually be a good one for the Ducks. Who knows?
Time will tell...![]()

Good luck with that. We had one of the great young defensive coaches in football, it sucked. It could be. One of the great young coaches in football right now. Gotta get a quality OC to pair with him if Oregon goes down that path
I mean, he took a program that had been mediocre in its best times for over a decade to the playoff his third year, followed it with two more conference championships and big 6 bowls the following years. There were some frustrations in there, but you’re gonna have that with any coach, it’s real easy sitting in the stands or on your couch. And definitely a bit disappointing they didn’t win any of those big games. But all in all he gave us we wanted. Don’t know what else we could have possibly thought his tenure would be.Exactly. We dont even know if someone with HC experience will work out.
USC just hired a coach that most consider a top head coach. There is no guarantee it is going to work. Chances are that it will, but theres certainly no guarantee.
Heck, Chris Petersen was the hottest coach in the country when you guys hired him and while I wouldnt say his tenure was a disappointment, it wasnt exactly what most thought it would be either.
With his experience, Lanning likely has a solid chance to work out, but it certainly isnt the slam dunk that Ducks fans, especially OD, will say it is.
It’s gonna be Lanning. If Lanning doesn’t stay until the end of the lane for UGA this year, he’s a bitch that’ll never make it. Kirby stayed at Alabama until after the NCG before taking over the UGA job and still salvaged a top 10 recruiting class
