There's probably more than a dozen DC's in the country that can beat almost every team but Bama that nearly any team would jump at. Pretty much only one georgia fan is delusional enough to think there is a coach to be had that can overcome the often great talent disparity on the tide.

Kirby will replace this minion DC with someone else he knows will follow his scheme to the letter.

Lanning is now on his own to either take what he learned from Kirby to Oregon, and do his best to implement it without daddy holding his hand, or implement his own scheme, his own vision. This is what separates pretenders from contenders.

Seems Oregon didn't want to play the $7.5 million/10 years game and I don't blame them in the slightest for that. Probably getting this guy for $4 - $5 million for 4/5 years. You lock 'em in with the long term big bucks AFTER they've proven their worth with CC's and P/O appearances.

Ducks open the season up next year with Georgia too! Solid 9 months of hype for that game!

Let's wait until we see who leaves for the NFL, who transfers, who comes in, who commits. I'm excited too bud, but just a little early!

The Oregon recruiting class is down to #22 and could drop even further in the next few days. The guys you already have on roster couldn't beat (3-9) Stanford and got clocked twice by Utah in a combined score of 76-17.

Kirby will do the plug-and-play with his defense. As you'd mentioned before, likely Muschamp.

If it ain't Chip, Lanning is a great hire for Oregon. How can you not get excited about the #1 defense and one of the countries best recruiters?
If it’s not Chip just shut the program down because its obvious there is no true commitment to be a championship winning program.

Word is the Oregon AD gave his other luxury box holders a voice in this round. Seems they overrode Phil Knight who wanted Chip. Rumor was the majority of them wanted homegrown Wilcox.

Chip was likely gonna cost the going rate of $7.5 million/10 years. Those other luxury box holders (donors) didn't want to be on the hook for that kind of commitment. I don't blame them.

It’s gonna be Lanning. If Lanning doesn’t stay until the end of the lane for UGA this year, he’s a bitch that’ll never make it. Kirby stayed at Alabama until after the NCG before taking over the UGA job and still salvaged a top 10 recruiting class
Georgia could hire a tackling dummy as HC and with the INSANE amount of in state talent, they would still have a top 10 recruiting class. The fact Georgia hasn't won a title in so long is mind boggling.

It's coaching. Kirby is the best recruiter we've ever had by a large moment, but he can't match wits with head coaches of teams with a similar talent level.

Rumors for new hires as of today in Eugene Oregon...

Head Coach- Urban Meyer
Ofensive Coordinator- Chip Kelly
Defensive Coordinator- Justin Wilcox
Head of Recruiting- Lane Kiffin
Secondary Coach- Deion Sanders
QB Coach- Joe Montana

Has OD been interviewed for the job yet?

Cheap assed donors.. :heh:

Luckily Lanning has spent time with a program with a modern approach to recruiting so I don’t think he will have the same problems recruiting that Lake did. Also, I can’t believe anyone else in the country will hire Donovan to be their OC
Lake was supposed to be more “aggressive” and willing a little more greasy with recruiting, seemed to be the unspoken promise. He clearly just sucked at it. His head scratchingly shitty OC hire and just general incompetence when it came to managing the whole program were some pretty big hurdles to overcome, for sure.

Not knocking the hire, seems solid. Those wounds are just pretty fresh, I suppose.
