PAC News

He already admitted he screwed up the math, let it go. We've all had brain farts before.

I'm honestly more surprised that Eric couldn't see that Oregon/Washington to the Big Ten was in play.

Admittedly, I thought it would happen, but not until ND to the B1G was going to happen. Which I would have put at around 2030/2031. I think I undersold just how crappy the P12 deal was going to be. I also think I was hoping subconsciously the P12 wouldn't die, but it probably did the day USC/UCLA left.

Just thinking how close Oklahoma and texas were to joing the Pac 5 years ago. My how the tides have turned.

So Texas killed the PAC?

Ill Allow It GIF

Goodbye old friends

Funny gif, but I feel for the Beavers and Cougars. Meanwhile, Cal and Stanford just seem oblivious to it all. FWIW, I've been to many games @ Cal, @ Stanford, one game @ Oregon State and peeked through the gates @ Washington State on a visit to Pullman to visit a friend. I will miss the Pac.

Agreed. I wish the PAC 12 could have survived.

Same. Can't say it didn't have chances though. It was one monumental fuck up after another with Larry Scott and by the time the conference wised up and sent him packing, it was too late. The damage was already done.

Kliavkoff didn't do any better. Seems like he was in over his head, or he was getting too much push back from certain school presidents

Everyone feels bad for WSU and the beavs. Feel bad for the loss of the traditions and history of the conference going away. Hell, feel bad for the added travel and other burdens for the schools going to new homes.

Don't for a second feel bad for Stanford or Cal. They were substantial drivers of the leagues demise.

They fucked around and are now finding out.

The P12 was through at that point but they weren't finished.

After USC and UCLA announced they were leaving, he was trying to sell ice to the Eskimos as far as a TV package goes. JMO.

I believe the PAC got a deal offered like the B12 before the B12 did and he/the PAC said no. Also something about a network asking them to team up with the B12 for an alliance a few years ago and he/the PAC said no. Couldnt have pleased the networks to get those answers if indeed those things happened.

What ultimately killed this media deal was the linear aspect imo. The money in low 20’s with much less linear coverage was an absolute no for some.

If you were around or of age to remember the death of the BigEast.. Very similar attitude with some of those schools and all of the basketball only schools. The basketball only schools deserve every minute of poorhouse living that they are in now.

He tried. He wasn't perfect. But to be fair, he thought he had time to restore the conferences reputation and get things right. There was just so much that needed to be fixed and it was all stuff that takes time, like fixing the PAC 12 Network. There were also things like negotiating a new tv deal, that he couldn't even start on until a certain date.

He thought he had time to work on that stuff, but just like everyone else, was blindsided by USC and UCLA leaving.

I think the conferences days were numbered as soon as USC and UCLA announced they were leaving. Considering the conference was already having trouble keeping up with the tv deals of the BIG and SEC...losing the 2nd largest media market in the country was bound to only make things worse.

I was around, and I remember! :)
