PAC12 Basketball

Oregon State has performed much better in P12 play than I thought. Great chance to get to .500 in league play and could be right there fighting for a top 3 finish in league play.

I don't see a top 3 finish but they are getting better as the season goes on. Tinkle is a good coach and he used the early losses as a teaching moment for his players. Oregon State is never an easy out with Tinkle. If you take out the 16-17 disaster, Tinkle is 45-54 in PAC 12 play. May not seem like much but it's pretty good considering the uphill battle Oregon State faces in a P6 conference.

Huge win for USC last night over UCLA.

PAC 12 Standings:
USC - 9-2
UCLA - 9-2
Colorado - 8-4
Oregon - 5-3
Stanford - 7-5
Oregon State - 6-5
Arizona 7-6

USC finishes the season with a return trip to UCLA. The game will be on CBS and the PAC 12 Regular Season could be on the line.

Wazzu with the upset last night over UCLA. It's also a historic year for USC. They are looking for their first regular season conference championship since 1985. It certainly looks like they are going to end that drought this year.

PAC 12 games for Saturday/Sunday:

Saturday:

Oregon at Arizona - 11:00 AM PST on ESPN2 - Huge game for the Ducks as they have everyone back from injury/covid. Oregon is squarely on the bubble and desperately needs some quality wins to add to their resume. A road win over Arizona would certainly help.

UCLA at Washington - 4:30 PST on the PAC 12 Network - Bruins look to get back on track against a UW team that is really struggling. Last time these two played, Washington gave UCLA all they wanted. Bruins need a win to keep their PAC 12 title hopes alive.

#20 USC at Washington State - 5:00 PST on ESPNU - Kyle Smith is doing a really good job at Washington State and upsetting UCLA on Thursday was big for the team. They will have a shot to pull off another upset with a really good USC team coming to town.

Utah at Stanford - 7:00 PST on the PAC 12 Network - Stanford's tournament hopes are beginning to fade. They really can't afford a home loss to Utah on Saturday. This is a game I'm looking forward to on Saturday night.

Colorado at California - 7:00 PST on ESPNU - Buffs are coming off a nice road win over Stanford. CU will try to avoid a bad loss against Cal.

Sunday:

Oregon State at Arizona State - 4:00 PST on ESPN2 - Sun Devils suffered a lot of injuries right before playing Oregon which hurt them. The Beavs have been playing better of late and will be looking for a road win.

Ducks start off the weekend with a 63-61 win over Arizona. Ducks have won 9 of their last 11 vs the Wildcats

- California upsets Colorado
- USC wins on the road in a potential trap game
- UCLA survives a scare against UW
- Stanford beats Utah in a game they needed to have

Updated PAC 12 Standings:

USC 11-2
UCLA 10-3
Oregon 7-3
Colorado 10-5
Stanford 9-6
Arizona 8-7

Washington wins the Apple Cup 65-63 with an upset in Pullman. Marcus Tsohonis, former Jefferson High School (Portland, OR) standout, scores 29 points in the win.

Wednesday/Thursday Games:

Wednesday:
Arizona State at #17 USC - 5:00 PST on ESPN2 - Sun Devils are coming off a win on Sunday against Oregon State. USC is looking to win their first conference title since 1985 and have the Arizona schools coming to town.

Thursday:
Utah at Oregon State - 5:30 PST on the PAC 12 Network - Two middle tier PAC teams looking to move up the standings. Neither team have much NCAA hopes without winning the PAC 12 tournament.

Arizona at UCLA - 6:00 PST on ESPN2 - UCLA needs a win to keep their conference title hopes alive. They have a pretty solid Arizona team coming to town. This should be a good one.

California at Washington State - 7:30 PST on the PAC 12 Network - Cal is coming off a big upset over Colorado and Wazzu is coming off a devastating loss to Washington. It will be interesting to see how both teams deal with the emotional highs and lows.

Stanford at Washington - 8:00 PST on FS1 - A game that Stanford absolutely can't afford to lose. Stanford is squarely on the bubble and can't lose a game like this. UW should have some confidence after beating their in-state rival in Pullman.

Colorado at Oregon - 8:00 PST on ESPN2 - ESPN2 has a pretty solid PAC 12 double header. Oregon is hoping to get another quality win so they can breathe a bit easier on selection sunday. Colorado is coming off a loss to Cal and would love to get a quality road win to help negate that.

Wednesday/Thursday Games:

Huge couple weeks for UCLA and Stanford.

Huge couple weeks for UCLA and Stanford.

UCLA also only remains 1 game out of first place. It's a similar situation that they were in last year. I expect USC to hold on to first place, though. Oregon is only 1 back in the loss column but it doesn't look like their missed games will be made up so they don't really have a chance at catching USC unless USC has a collapse down the stretch.

UCLA and Oregon get important wins to improve their tournament resumes.

Stanford beats UW fairly easily.

Saturday's PAC 12 Games:

Stanford at Washington State - 1:00 PST on ESPN2 - Both teams picked up a big win on Thursday. Every game is critical for Stanford at this point. They can't afford any bad losses at this point.

Arizona at #17 USC - 6:00 PST on FOX - Arizona had a stinker on Thursday against UCLA and they play on Saturday against a red hot USC team. USC remains one game ahead of UCLA in the PAC 12 standings.

Colorado at Oregon State - 5:00 PST on ESPNU - This is a surprisingly big game for CU. CU has suffered a few bad losses (UW and Cal) and really wants to avoid another one against OSU. However, OSU is coming off a blowout win over Utah and they always play people tough in Corvallis.

Utah at Oregon - 6:00 PST on the PAC 12 Network - Oregon's tournament resume is a little more solidified with wins over Arizon and Colorado. However, if they want to keep their faint PAC 12 Championship hopes alive, they need to keep winning.

California at Washington - 7:00 PST on ESPNU - These teams will be battling it out for last place in the PAC 12.

Arizona State at UCLA - 7:00 PST on ESPN2 - Sun Devils continue to struggle, especially on defense. UCLA needs to keep winning to remain in striking distance of USC and to improve their tournament resume.

Last Regular Season Conference Championship:

Oregon - 2020
Washington - 2019
Arizona - 2018
UCLA - 2013
California - 2010
Utah - 2009 (MWC)
Stanford - 2004
Oregon State - 1990
USC - 1985
Arizona State - 1975 (WAC)
Colorado - 1969 (Big Eight)
Washington State - 1941 (PCC)

Brutal 3OT loss for Stanford. Too many turnovers and missed free throws late in the game.

Good win for Wazzu but it’s a brutal loss for a team that’s currently on the bubble.

Arizona upsets USC in the Galen Center
UCLA survives an upset bid against ASU.

UCLA and USC are now tied for 1st place in the PAC 12. They are set to play each other the last game of the regular season.

Big PAC 12 game tonight.

Oregon at #19 USC - 6:00 PST on FS1 - Ducks are coming in hot winning 5 in a row. USC is coming off a home loss to Arizona and are now tied with UCLA for 1st place in the PAC. Ducks are a long shot to win the PAC but a win tonight is a must if they want to keep that hope alive. Oregon doesn't have a ton of size so it will be interesting to see what Altman does to try to counter Mobley inside.

USC beats Oregon to reclaim sole possession of 1st place

USC loses in Boulder while UCLA wins at Utah. UCLA now leads the PAC by a 1/2 game. However, UCLA has to travel to Boulder on Saturday.

Oregon bounces back and beats Stanford in Palo Alto. Stanford is running out of time to start stacking some more quality wins together.

Two big ones tonight in the PAC 12:

USC (-5.5) at Utah - 5:00 PST on ESPN2
UCLA at Colorado (-6) - 7:00 PST on ESPN2

UCLA leads USC by a .5 game in the standings. Both should have tough road games today.

Other PAC 12 Games:
Washington at Arizona (-13.5) - 11:00 AM PST on CBS
Oregon (-9.5) at California - 1:00 PST on PAC 12 Network
Oregon State at Stanford (-7) - 3:30 PST on PAC 12 Network
Washington State at Arizona State (-3.5) - 6:00 PST on PAC 12 Network

Must win for Stanford as they are playing for their tournament lives. Beavers have proven they aren't an easy out. Of the "other" games, that's the one I'm most looking forward to.

USC and UCLA went down last night.

PAC 12 Standings - Top 4:
1. UCLA 13-4
2. Oregon 11-4
3. USC 13-5
4. Colorado 13-6

Remaining schedules:

UCLA: at Oregon, USC
Oregon: Arizona, UCLA, at Oregon State
USC: Stanford, at UCLA
Colorado: Arizona State

UCLA and Oregon control their own destiny going into the final week of the regular season.
