Pac12 expansion - looking to add 4 teams

Latest saying Memphis Tulane USF and UTSA . 10 team conference.
So we talkin:

Washington State
Oregon State
Boise State
Fresno (Cali)
SDSU (Cali)
Colorado State

UTSA (TX)
USF (FL)
Memphis (growing state TN)
Tulane (New Orleans)

Not a terrible group and some good areas for recruiting. Yes it’s going to be limited compared to the other conferences, be getting a lot of looked overs and transfers that would like to be closer to home ect. But could have some appeal in the right time/day slots.

For this group I wouldn’t look past Air Force, the service academies get some eyeballs for various reasons and that also give the conference a built in rival game with CSU.

I’m betting some schools are going to get considered (Gonzaga/UConn ect.) for basketball only memberships in some of the “less than” conferences moving forward to try and maximize every revenue stream possible as it’s going to be needed by all parties.
If they keep looking eastward then Temple/Ga State might make some sense as well.

Those of you that know more about this than I do, help this old man understand something. Since the NFL has gone to Thursday games, why the hell does ESPN even try to compete with it? I was wondering last night what the viewership difference was between Jets/Patriots and South Alabama/App State.

If you can get those 4, that's a great start. Add UNLV, Air Force and Gonzaga and call it a day (UConn ain't joining the PAC).

If USF is in the conference that would be a bigger surprise than when the Pac 12 broke up.

Early reports that the American Conference schools are going to turn down the Pac 12.

So Pac 12 options become remaining 8 MWC schools? other AAC schools? Sun Belt? MAC? CUSA?

UNLV has been a constant feeling of standby. the others? probably not unless they had to.
the statement of staying in the AAC had the logos of Memphis, Tulane, UTSA and USF which are the bigger fish but would a play at North Texas, Rice, Tulsa end in a different result?
Texas State had a little talk on them. Do any other schools have appeal? Arkansas State? Troy?
I dont see any MAC school as really being an option or even though schools like NIU or Toledo is geographically no different than going after the AAC schools.
CUSA even less appeal. New Mexico State only because of being a state school and a decent basketball program.

so what do they do?

Damn. Going to have to grab UNLV for sure then and probably some crap program like Utah State. UNLV would be a quality add, but keep it at eight to avoid further watering things down.

I don’t believe for a second that, that is a legitimate report. The conference had zero interest in USF. Tulane and Memphis, definitely that has been rumored but USF is just media speculation

Missed opportunity if that don’t go with 6-PAC and get a beer sponsor.
the 4 wont officially join until 2026 by which point they have to have 2 more in place. they will never actually play as a 6 team conference.

I’m 99% sure the goal is to get to 9 so the schools have 8 conference games and 4 OOC games. Everything I’ve heard was it was going to be UNLV, Memphis and Tulane. So without Memphis and Tulane I’m assuming it is going to be UNLV and two of the Texas schools. If they dip into the MWC much more then somehow you, Fresno, CSU and San Diego State need to somehow put political pressure to get the votes to dissolve the MWC. Otherwise this whole reimagining of the PAC 12 was pointless and a waste of money.

Sooooo, if they add two more MWC schools it will really be MWC 2.0 instead of PAC 2.0.

At this point they should save the buyout money and just merge

agree on UConn, imo they will join either the Big12 or the ACC post FSU/Clemson departure.

Sounds like the projected revenue totals the PAC pitched were deemed too high for the eastern schools and.. it probably is. Travel expenses and exit fees ect. have to come into play and it’s gonna take a bunch of money that evidently isn’t there to make it worth to the eastern schools.
Taking more regional schools makes more sense and has to be more cost effective. It’s probably a blessing in disguise that the eastern teams said no.

I doubt UConn's ever getting the votes to join the B12 unless the networks just add to the pot so no one takes a cut in revenue adding them. And I really don't see how that would be feasible.

It was always going to be "insert some midmajor conference name 2.0"

The money probably wasn't feasible travel wise for all sports for Tulane and Memphis.
