Pete Townshend Hates Led Zeppelin

Whole Lotta Love was as groundbreaking as I Wanna Hold Your Hand IMHO

I would have gone with dazed and confused. But zeppelin II was a beast of an album for its day. Of the two bands mentioned, zeppelin would by far be my choice a better band and musicians in general.

My face is How the West was Won. Even given the production problems, I prefer live recordings.

You brought up whole lotta love which came off of zep II and why I mentioned that album. Their live album and movie they did of their concert in msg was damn good. But the two projects I liked most on the live album were stairway and no quarter. In both, page lit it up.

It is not hard to give credit. That makes them assholes but doesn't take away how good a band they were. I get ya. I like singer/songwriters but I like performers, too.
Fair enough. Never gonna be a fan though

It takes a lot away from them IMO. Not hard to give credit.

How do you feel about Johnny Cash and his lying about writing his first hit, Folsom Prison Blues, while in the military....only to find out years later he stole the song from someone else?

The song was originally named Crescent City Blues and is a about a train in New Orleans and had nothing to do with Folsom prison.

I brought it up because Whole Lotta Love was their first song to break through to the main stream. It took over the music world akin to the British invasion.

That could be...it's before my time. But I like that album. I've been a rock fan for my entire life and have listened to a lot of interviews. Zeppelin is one of the bands credited as a pioneer and revolutionist in the rock industry by a large majority of experts.

I know zep has been in court over proprietary issues, but I also know they have written a ton of their own music, some of which is their very best. Physical graffiti may be my favorite album of all time.

Reading the dummies jump on bandwagons about stealing others music or not responsible for helping to create Rock as mainstream is funny.

I was old enough and believe me, Whole Lotta Love was nuclear.

Pretty dirty. Like Cash, but not a huge fan TBH. My least favorite of the Highwaymen

Most artists have a couple ripoff songs. Mary Jane’s Last Dance was a ripoff of a Jayhawks song for instance.

LZ’s whole catalog was ripoffs though

If you know the history of Rock & Roll the British groups covered lots of classic American artists. The Beatles emulated Buddy Holly & The Crickets and the Rolling Stones were fans of Muddy Waters. Rock & Roll originated in America and the Brits were imitators.

I was laughed at by my friends dad one day as a kid. We were always at this kids house because his dad had all the awesome rock albums and he allowed us kids access to his music collection. Zeppelin, aerosmith, james gang, Jeff Beck were always playing loud.

His dad laughed at us...as he said, us kids listening to old rock was funny for him because we were into it.

I imagine there were a few of my friends dads laughing when they would hear us listening old Chicago blues and Tennessee bluegrass during the same night.

Nobody is denying rock has it's roots in black blues. Clapton and Page have always talked about this.

You brought up the most over rated person in rock and roll....buddy holly. He's special because he died at 22. Nothing says flash in the pan more than a musician that died at 22.

Calling buddy Holly a flash in the pan shows your ignorance of Rock & Roll history. He is one of the greatest Rock performers of all time and an inspiration to The Beatles.

He died at 22. He is not the greatest. wth is wrong with you. Are you a teen girl? If you wanted to suck a cock, he was right for you.

Rock and Roll = Something other than rock. Doowap much

She's real fine, my 409

Speaking of ripoff songs, heard Old Crow Medicine Show’s latest song this morning. I hope they gave John Mellancamp(spell?) songwriting credit on it
