Playoffs need to extend to at least 8 teams

The only argument there is that ND is 0-9 because they keep getting picked for NY6 bowls. I suppose that if ND wants to go to Jax for the Taxslayer Gator Bowl, they might be 4-5. But, going to NY6 bowls sounds better.
You are way too rational. The blue blood homers I'm referring to don't have a rational or unbiased bone in their bodyies.

As much as I would love to throw salt at ND, I would have to agree. Bowl Records (and sometimes OOC records for that matter) do not make sense out of context. You have to look at the state of the programs in the match-up.

12 or 16, I am for 12. Of course there will always be blue blood bias, but it will still increase interest.

This idea that teams will lose interest is just nuts. You never played sports, I am guessing. You play USCjr every year, last game. You think your team won't be interested? If you go undefeated you will get a top seed, play worse teams. You think your team won't care about that? Depending on the way it is setup, there might be home games ... you don't think your team will get up for that?
I may have exaggerated the bit where teams may lock down earlier once they feel safely in the playoffs but you see it in other sports where coaches limit the use of key players and the playbook
We are already seeing scheduling go through the roof starting mid-2020s. What do you mean it will just be an exhibition? You think when we play you guys game 1 next year, our players will think "it's just an exhibition?"
The team and fanbase? No, we won't lose interest. Your average national neutral fan? Idk. Exhibition game as in something like your College Basketball Champions Classic with Duke, Kansas, MSU and UK where win/lose both teams walk away nothing to lose or gain. Atleast right now we can still hype up the CU-UGA or ORE-OSU games as playoff type games
You seem to object to having more teams in a playoff? Why exactly is it a bad idea?
Personal preference, I find CFB holds my interest throughout the entire season better than other sports where besides my main teams, I'm not interested in other games until playoffs. I credit the small number of playoff teams in giving regular season games more substance. I fear expanding will make the big regular season matchups less interesting because winning or losing doesn't greatly impact your playoff standings. Why fix what is not broken?

I won't lie, my interest in CFB continues to decline. I posted a thread about it. The sport has gotten very top heavy with Ohio State always winning the B1G, Clemson the ACC, Oklahoma the Big12, and Alabama the SEC (Alabama has had a few contenders lately).

It seems like the sport is about those 4 teams and looking at which teams could beat those 4. It is getting very old.

So is it time the Power 5 Implements a College Football P5 Draft for kids? Form a new division so the G5 can have their pity party playoffs.

I say this with all due respect ... the problem you have is that you are the fan of a team that has been an absolute train wreck for 1.5 decades, but was once proud, has a bleak future, with an unrealistic fanbase who still thinks they are the 90s. That has to be the worst position to be in. If you are fan of the top 10-15 teams, there is hope. If you are the Elite, you have each year to look forward to. If you are like an NC State fan (most of CFB), you are just going for the pageantry, a day at the stadium, and occasionally knocking off a good team, so your expectations are low to begin with.

Good AD hire today, BTW. He seems to know how to hire coaches.

Can't compare CBB to CFB ... there are so many CBB games. But, the big CFB games are awesome. I mainly go to the big away UGA games as they are so damn much fun. I can't wait to go to neutral or away at Clemson, Oregon, tOSU, UT, FSO, UCLA, and Oklahoma over the next decade. I went to Notre Dame away and home, and those were two unreal weekends.

I don't think you are a typical CFB fan. Typical fans like the good cross conference rivalry games more than something like CU v. BC or Wake. And you aren't a rabid CFB because we watch other games all Saturday long. You are homer - don't meant that pejoratively - fan that just likes his own team until playoffs.

If you think it through, far more regular season games will matter with expanded playoffs because way more teams have a shot. If you expand by 8 teams to 12, that probably means 25 more teams are fighting for those spots at some point in the year.

You keep saying that winning and losing doesn't greatly impact the standings ... it does. No one wants to get in 12th. You want in at 1 so you play 12.

You can do things to make something better even if it isn't broken, and there is a good argument there is something broken. It's funny, on one hand my desire for expansion isn't driven by my being a Dawg fan. I think we are on the cusp of getting into the 4 CFP in the near future, and we've been there 3 years ago, and close 2 years ago. My luck is we start getting in as a top 4, but get beat by a 5-12 team each year. But, on the other hand, I know what it is like to have to go through Bama/LSU just to get there every year. Your team on the other hand doesn't break a sweat each year to get in, and you only have to worry about Bama and LSU once you get there. tOSU is the same way. I think that might be influencing your thought here.

Actually wanted to go to ND this past year :sigh:. Hoping things clear up before the game in Charlotte

My phrasing was incorrect, I meant only CFB I sit around all day checking all different types of matchups all across the country. In other sports I don't really care about tuning in to my team is not apart of until the playoffs.

I see what you're saying but I understand there's tradeoffs. Just my opinion that top ten matchups(where I'm a neutral to the teams playing) are better to watch when the teams are fighting for a playoff spot instead of a better seed. Also I find it fun watching top teams potentially lose a playoff spot in an unexpected upset. I understand that we will still get this with the lower seeded teams, I just don't believe seeing a team that has a low chance of winning it all (ex: UNC) being that much of a big deal if they stuble at end and miss the playoffs. If more expansion = better then why stop at 12, why not 16, 32, 64 where do we draw the line?

Maybe but I've always been pro BCS, +1 system or 4 team playoffs far before Clemson was any good
