Pruitt threatens to cripple Tennessee Athletics if they don't pay up

Tennessee can miss bowl games and the NCAA tourney just fine on their own.
Lol thats fair but provatuon still costs them shared league money from bowls and the tourney

Rick Barnes (UT's Basketball Coach) commenting on Pruitt:

Yeah, after review, I don't have any insider information on this one. Just opinions from both sides.

It does sound like Tennessee is willing to call his bluff on it.

The stuff that Tennessee threw out there as "evidence" to get rid of Pruitt didn't sound horrible and I'm sure they had done much worse (because everyone has) but I just don't understand why they opened this door just to save 12mm.

Everyone knows you pay the guy, self-report what you can away with, and hire attorneys to develop school-imposed penalties and argue that the NCAA should be happy with that.

You guys are acting like rookies on this deal.

It is because Tennessee has divided boosters. The Haslems were rejected (Schiano situation) and the Anti-Haslem crowd brought in Fulmer to run program. I think it was some pro-Haslem supporters in the administration that leaked the information.

It is a powerplay. Part of the reason we are so dysfunctional.

Well, if Fulmer says it it must be true. LOL. Fulmer is as dirty as everyone else is. This will not come out well for UTjr.

I am surprised they didn't settle to just avoid the bad PR. My assumption is that Pruitt wants a settlement number that UT is unwilling to pay.

I am just giving links to the story. I am not giving an opinion either way.

I might as well quit college football though if NCAA punishes. There is no point in watching the sport anymore.

You’re going to get something because of the big fuss your idiot Chancellor made and their insistence to out themselves to get rid of Pruitt.

The play is to self report (supposedly all), enforce self imposed penalties like scholarship reductions and sit out a bowl this year or something and you should be good to go.

I think you are correct. Honestly, with the way the Supreme Court ruled against the NCAA, Tennessee could likely challenge a NCAA ruling and win any ways. NCAA is basically dead after that decision.

Pruitt was actually threatening some of the other sports such as Baseball and Men's Basketball (this is why Rick Barnes commented). Tennessee has been far more competitive in the other sports lately than Football.

I have been amazed over the years at how incompetent your administration has been. This isn't fans giving each other a hard time. Your administration, over many years, has made misstep after misstep. I mean by accident you would have to do something wright every now and again. Settle for 5-6 million, and move on. Keeping the spotlight on the situation is the exact wrong thing to do.

He better start wearing a helmet in public.

- But no shit, I can understand him wanting his money but good luck getting a job again in CFB after openly threatening to cripple a program. He probably should fire his lawyer, that kind of rhetoric really isn't helpful.

I am giving you a "100" because you are right. A lot of it is Haslem meddling and the rivalry between Haslems and other UT boosters. It has created significant dysfunctionality. Haslems also own the Cleveland Browns and we know how well that has gone.

Imagine having a T. Boone Pickens or Phil Knight type donor that is utterly incompetent. That is Tennessee's position. There is also a lot of division in the administration overall. We go through ADs and Chancellors like water with factions just trying to put their "yes man" in charge.

From everything that I am reading, Pruitt doesn't have a great case.

Despite that fact, it still makes sense to settle. Tennessee has too much bad PR right now. It is no coincidence that these comments were made after what happened this Saturday. I doubt they would have been made if not for that.

My guess is he has a terrible case. He's a cheating POS. That said, once the suit is filed he gets discovery which includes depositions, etc. No one, and I mean no one, wants that. Can you imagine getting to put Fulmer under oath.

I think you are right on the timing.

Pruitt is a slimeball and I am sure his attorney is probably just as bad.
