R.I.P Florida - St Pete

I'm here in Tampa. I'm about 5-10 miles from the nearest saltwater, and 47ft above sea level. I should be okay, but wish me luck.

Good luck to you.... Thankfully Milton's not projected to come ashore with the CAT 5 winds it had earlier.

That 5 - 10 miles wouldn't do you much good.

Looks as if most people are heading north. I would go south - shorter distance less traffic, less impact projected.

Interesting to see the impact on housing and structures designs after this.

It's projected to be a CAT 3 at landfall. If that's the case there will be mostly shingle loss and tarped roofs.

The bigger issue is the rains. They soak the ground and trees fall over on houses, roads, etc..

That will be well inland and likely across it's entire path across Florida.

Most people have family north. If shit gets really bad, they've got options. Going south could put you on an island where health-sustaining supplies could grow scarce. If you've got options south and a stable long-term supply chain, going south could be a good call.

Praying for you all. I spent a few years in temple terrace. Miss it like crazy. But everything I loved is gone.

Barnacles in Brandon.
Had season tickets to the storm
Leaving work at 5. Driving all the way to st Pete And getting Ray tickets for $20

"Run from the water, hide from the wind"

As long as you're high enough to not be affected by storm surge and high enough to not be affected by flooding rivers/creeks inland then just hunker down. Cat 3 winds aren't gonna destroy homes. Mainly issues with shingles blowing off.

Root balls of trees are going to be compromised from the heavy rains. 100+ mph winds are going to topple them.
Trees will come down on homes, roads, and power lines across it's entire path across Florida.

Hopefully those inland peeps have plenty of bottled water to drink, filled their bathtubs, sinks, etc., have a generator and plenty of gas as they will likely be without electricity for a week or more, and charcoal/pellets for their grills.

Been there, done that.

Good luck, dude.

A good friend of mine lives in a 2nd floor condo on the water by Tampa Bay and he's decided to ride it out.

They needed to get the fuck out of there.

Storm surge is powerful and will knock down buildings.

This was an apartment complex in Hurricane Camille's storm surge (1969). Completely gone.
23 people having a "Hurricane Party" died.

Looks like it’s hitting in the most ideal spot. I don’t think Tampa sees much of a storm surge if any. I could see it helping and taking water back out like it did a few years ago

From your lips to God's ears.

I'm worried about the stubborn bastard.

Not worth the risk though.

Hurricanes are fickle. Even the slightest change in track can change where the NE quadrant comes ashore and where the surge will be.
