Raiders fire Gruden

How is the Chapelle thing at all similar to this situation? Curious how they belong in the same discussion. That anyone would try to suggest they’re at all related is a good example of how ‘cancel culture’ isn’t a real thing anyone should care about, but a convenient outrage term.
Preaching to the choir.

Related in that one company (Netflix) isn’t bowing to the threats over what Chapelle said and another company (NFL and Raiders) are bailing out on the threat.

That’s the parallel I was drawing….not equating the things Gruden said to what Chapelle said in his show. The specific point I was making was a point to the comment of the “….impact it MAY have on the team and organization”.

If they suspended and fined him, and required him to get with the times it would not have hurt organization. As for the team…well….that is stickier.

It’s just a way to avoid personal responsibility. It isn’t Gruden’s fault that he said what he said. It’s society’s fault for taking issue with it.
That’s what I’m going to get from you for my reply to you, huh? I was never making excuse for Gruden, but pointing how this doesn’t advance society becoming better.

But, I’ll just chalk it up to you already having your mind made up and any questions you pose in a reply are not really questions at all if I ever feel the want to reply to one of your posts.

If Gruden was good, he wouldn't have been fired.

You can't say shitty things and underperform.
Fully admitted after this reply that I hadn’t considered the impact of the coaches performance in my long reply.

Hell, it was only a few weeks ago his team was storming through other teams.

But again, they aren’t the same thing at all, even if what Chapelle said was exactly word for word what Gruden expressed. Netflix expects Chapelle to bring controversy. He’s bringing views with it, it’s part of his job. If it was to the point where Netflix saw their subscribers dropping and could link it to his special or something they aired, they would drop it without hesitation.

Companies don’t give a single fuck about any of this other than how it relates to profit.

You do you. If your only solutions are “what about that other guy” and “punishment for bad behavior doesn’t further any goals” I’m not sure what there is to discuss anyway.

Putting in the effort to keep him doesn’t advance society either. It just brings them more headache and potential criticism, and in two months everyone has moved on either way.

What advances society in these situations is certain media dropping the cancel culture narrative. Some takes are shitty, and it’s okay for them to have some blowback. It’s how society works…

Exactly. The NFL is extremely risk-averse, ad absurdum. It explains why they dug their heels in about Kaepernick for years and suddenly they're playing "Lift Every Voice and Sing" before the national anthem.

right and Gruden will get hired to work in television in a year or two from now if he goes on the same type of apology tour that Cannon did.

Hiring Gruden will definitely hurt that network's interests in two years, lmao. I'm glad you finally learned how things work, though. Proud of you.

Not by a network carrying the NFL.

You’re gonna regret saying that, in say, oh, 2034.
Surprised Nicolas Cage GIF

And the Raiders had positive confirmation they would lose fans, ticket sales and ratings?

I agree with you that it’s not a perfect comparison at all, but again, using it in the context of threats to boycott or hurt both companies.

We can totally agree on the second paragraph :beer2:

I have no idea. But they removed themselves from all the negative press it’s gonna bring until there’s something else for sports media to latch onto, and did what they can to minimize the distraction it will bring the organization.
