Ump was less than an inch away from losing an eye. But the injury lawyer ad is pretty funny

That’s actually scarier than it even looked. Very damn close to the eyes. Just that tiny opening at the eyes and it got right in there. To be fair though….we probably don’t see something like this again.

I wasn't alive when Steve Yeager was impaled and it made me uncomfortable just thinking about it every time I would read about it. Anyone remember it?

Wouldn’t make me uncomfortable. I don’t consider Dodger players or fans to be people.

But wasn’t there an NHL player that nearly bled out on the ice after getting a neck artery severed by another player’s skate?

Yep, that one I had to watch. Clint Malarchuk.

I mean, I don't think I get uncomfortable because I am sad for Steve or sympathizing with Dodgers or their fans :noidea:

Luckily, in the 150 year historynf the Major Leagues, only one player has ever died as a direct result of an on-field incident…

MLB required umpires to replace balls when they became dirty after this incident. No clue how a dirty ball had anything to do with his death, but there you have it…

Edit: Maybe I should have read my own damned link…. Mays claimed the ball was wet and slipped out of his hand, despite claims from multiple players across the league that he hit Chapman deliberately.

There was a hockey player who died on the bench and still tried to play in the game.

Rich Peverley.

Baddest mother fucker in sports history.

I don’t recall ever hearing about the Dodgers catcher before, also just before my time of awareness.

But, I do recall Malarchuk. Shocking. I don’t get too shaken about most injuries I’ve seen on the field of play, Theisman, Willis McGahee, etc.

But, this one was gruesome and shocking. About the closest we will ever be to a slasher film playing out in game.

It takes a lot to make me queasy. Blood and broken bones don’t really bother me. Even though you top levels of auto racing are more safe now than they’ve ever been, when a car bursts into flames it always makes my heart drop until I see the driver get out. The cars are designed to protect the drivers from hard impacts now, but flames surrounding a strapped in driver scare the hell out of me
