Matt Rhule has indicated that Nebraska most likely will not hold one and now Sark is saying Texas is not going to have one.

Basically, coaches do not want their scrimmages televised as they become advertising for other schools to shop for players that may be on the second string but could play start for them. With the portal Spring games will probably become a thing of the past.

To be honest it's been years since I've seen a Spring game that was actually worth watching and we are talking like 20. It used to be a big and fun thing to attend and exciting to see the players but its crap now with weird formats and carnival shit going on so just stick a fork in them.

is there any recruiting value to offset other teams poaching?

Isn't this going to also rob some schools of their proudest seasonal accomplishment...selling out a spring game?

I think the round robin of robbing Peter to pay Paul is wearing out coaching staffs because they have no idea if they guys they have made investments in during Spring are going to be there in the Fall. The portal is making managing a roster completely miserable. Its a bit easier in basketball because most times you really have 10 guys you need to keep happy but when you jump the number to 105 then you have more than 10 times the headaches.

Oh no what are OUs 75,000 spring game fans going to do?

gonna need that money

also.. canceling spring games isn't about poaching.. Rhule is a dumbass who is struggling at NU and thinks everyone is trying to gun for his players.. Maybe those players are looking to BAIL?

How is Rhule struggling? :headscratch:

He seems to be on pace with his Temple and Baylor stints.

He's certainly on Sarkisian's pace.

What I don't get is what's Nebraska gonna do with their allotted time the Big 10 would give them to televise the Spring Game?

The Spring Game all though to some players is just another practice, to others it’s the only time they’ll have an opportunity to perform in front of that crowd. Just sit the guys you know don’t need it. Some players practice well but when the fans show up they can’t handle the lights. This is a chance to see who’s who. But also it’s a chance for the alumni to fellowship, the fans to show up and have a good time. Shoot even the NFL has night practice showcases during training camp. Spring games are a staple in college and one of the things that separates it from the NFL. Canceling the spring game is a no go!! If that’s the road we’re headed down, college football will truly be lost.

Probably also tough to keep the kids that don't start for either side and don't want to sit 3rd or 4th even though they need to develop.

Alumni are the key to me, there is some serious fundraising that goes on during those spring games as well as some BS "awards" to call out the 2nd tier donors who aren't getting named on buildings.

It's also a pretty good recruiting weekend. At least for OU.

Some lame excuse
Your players are getting phone calls with or without a spring game lol

Spring games have never really been a big deal here in the north.

I’ve watched two my entire life. Both when I was in school and only went to support friends who were playing.

Not a big loss to me. Understandable why a coach would elect to skip it in the current age. Nothing to gain, lots to lose.

That seems silly because I’m sure schools’ GM’s/recruiting coordinators already have scouted these other players. If anything with the longer season they’re shutting them down to avoid unnecessary injuries.
