I think it is more related to the fact that Heupel and the team are just not being chatty or saying anything dumb or controversial. Butch Jones and Jeremy Pruitt both said a lot of dumb things in their press conferences and were trying to push a lot of hype out. In fact, Knoxville and UT have been very quiet which has been the smart move.

It's been pointed out their GOR's are 15 years deep, as well as legislation that binds some of those to the hips of others.

The $76 million each for TX/OU is chump change compared to those.

Correct about the GORs. That's why I said down the road. I don't anticipate them leaving anytime soon.

People also said Oklahoma and Oklahoma State were tied to the hip. That changes when it becomes survival mode.

I can see them going after those teams but not sure any will bite except UVA. I think there still has to be some geographical connection (even if it is a stretch). Every team added to a Power 5 except West Virginia has had some type of Geographical connection to the league where it could fit in and create some synergy. For example, Nebraska is connected to Iowa and is very close to Minnesota and Wisconsin and can be somewhat classified as Midwest. Maryland and Rutgers have connection to Penn State.

Regarding SEC, Texas A&M had played LSU 50x prior to joining the league and was in a league with Arkansas in the past. Similar situation with Texas and its relationship with Texas A&M and Arkansas. Oklahoma has a connection with Missouri and borders Arkansas. Arkansas-Oklahoma also has the Barry Switzer connection.

Colorado and Utah are Western teams and it wasn't a stretch to fit them in with the Pac12.

UVA is located next to Maryland. NC is located next to VA. It's not much of a stretch and the Big Ten knows they need a presence in the South. If the ACC starts to crack, those universities would prefer the Big Ten to the SEC due to the academic alliance of the Big Ten.

Obviously being a fan, it has been very challenging the last few years. 2015 and 2016 were really the only two years that we felt relevant (well and the first part of 2020 when we were tied for longest winning streak in the nation until Pruitt collapsed against Kentucky). The 2015/2016 teams had a lot of talent and with the right coaching could have been playoff contenders. We had the East wrapped up in 2016 and Jones decided to play Josh Dobbs when he had the flu and was deathly sick against South Carolina. Of course we ended up losing the game as a result.

Butch Jones could not win without Josh Dobbs it seemed like and once he graduated, the wheels came off the bus. Pruitt's staff could never develop a QB. He got UT playing great Defense and made us physical upfront but the QB play was very inconsistent and his teams had a way of quitting once they got down or faced major adversity making the losses look even worse.

I don't see Tennessee being able to compete with Alabama until Saban is gone but I do think we could at least get back to where we are a top 25 team and beating South Carolina, Kentucky, Vandy, Missouri, etc. regularly. Auburn would be a good model for us. I would take having a program like they had with Gus Malzahn in a heart beat (They dumb to fire him. I wanted UT to hire Gus).

True but the B1G will have a hard time making inroads in the South because the SEC is king there. UNC will bring basketball but I still see Carolina recruits going to Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, etc. before UNC in the B1G. There just isn't the connection with the teams up north for the players. The B1G would be smarter to expand to West Coast instead. To me, B1G's best bet would be to grab Kansas, Oregon, Colorado, USC, and UCLA.

Generally, a lot of these "state laws" are more fiction and rumors than in reality. There are also different types of laws and a lot of laws have a sunset clause that defines and end date to the law.

Nope, league goes under 8 teams, it let's them out of a contract. A league of 7 teams is not a league per the TV contract.

If the Big Ten can add ND, then Kansas makes sense for the 16th team as the ACC teams aren't available right now.
