there isn't anything at the state level that ties Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the hip. If anyone ever claimed that OU/Oklahoma State were tied to the hip, it was because they were naive and thought tradition would overrule any monetary compensation.

UNC-Ch and NC State are members of the same school system (OU/OSU are not), and are can't make any decisions on conference affiliation without approval from the North Carolina BOG.

Oklahoma/Okie Jr was done by the preference of one of OU's old AD's (Maybe Duncan?).

I believe in 1994 when the Big 12 was being formed he wanted OU/Okie Jr in the same division so that they'd be sure to play every year. That somehow got turned into some legislative rumor.

I could be wrong and it could have been before the Big 8 was formed in 1959 when Okie Jr joined.
They were not part of the Big 7 or Big 6.

having two teams in the same state in the same division isn't an unreasonable request. The only thing the Big XII fucked up in regards to conference schedules is eliminating the annual Nebraska/Oklahoma game. Every other conference that has switched to divisional play has been able to maintain their most marquee rivalries. Mind boggling stupid.

Yeah...shame we didn't have to play texico AND Nebraska every year. :dhd:

When the XII was formed, Neb was still a good team.

I edited my post.
It could have been an AD before the Big 8 was formed in 1959 putting OU and Jr in the same conference.
Okie Jr was not in the Big 7 or Big 6 yet they played OU every year since Christ was a child.

It's a no brainer for TX/OU to make the move for the 2022 season.

SEC overall media revenue will jump with their existing contracts using the 'accordingly' formula for the 2022 season.
Even higher when CBS is eliminated and it goes sole ESPN in 2024.

Not to mention the awkwardness of continuing to play in the Big12.

Does anyone have a video link to what Kirk Herbsteit was crying about today? I can't find it.

Funny how Nebraska went from being a solid team in the Big12 to being a shit burger after coming to the BigTen
First year in they only had 3 losses and beat MSU 24-3....too bad they decided to shitcan 2 different decent coaches.

Rivalry isn’t all records. To me a rivalry game is one you want to watch

I think this is a good description.
I would throw in one more, and that is 'how do the fans of those teams' think of it.
