Texpectations: Longhorn Superthread

Yes -- you have two QB's who were nationally ranked #1 recruit regardless of position. Ewers and Manning. And where exactly is Ewers going? He isn't even remotely close to being NFL ready. He is wildly inaccurate and needs to clean up so much in his game to hope to even get drafted, let alone leave early.

And not sure if you know this, but the Spring Game is a stage where it is set up for the offense to dominate. Defenses are as vanilla as you will ever see. There is no hitting the QB, there are no complex blitz packages, there is no hiding coverages. It is set up to make your offense shine. THAT is why it is alarming for Manning to look so lost out there.

As far as Arch in 2024 -- I truly hope he is Texas's QB in 2024, after we lose 17 or 18 starters after this year -- it'd give us a great chance to beat them.

Ewers has a good season he will be drafted. NFL reaches for talent all the time. Richardson maybe a top 10 pick and he is bad at football.

Anyone thinking Arch looked lost, did not watch the game. You were probably impressed when the 2nd string QB floated a ball to a 5 star WR vs a walk on also.

If Ewers was 6'4" 235 Lbs and ran a 4.4 40 with a cannon for an arm -- Then yes, I'd agree, he will be a 1st round pick. Ewers looks NOTHING like Richardson. Isn't on the same planet athletically either. Ewers is the opposite of that though. He is short for the NFL at 6'1" and unless you are uber athletic or crazy accurate -- That is a long road for someone who wants to be a college QB.

And Arch looked TERRIBLE in the spring game. He threw the ball 14 times for 30 yards. Any way you want to try and frame it -- he looked lost.

That being said -- Ewers will be in the NFL, as some team will take a shot with him, but he will be holding a clip board, which should bode well for Texas, as I don't think he is going anywhere, as I bet he makes more from NIL than he will in the NFL, as I don't see anyone spending a 1st round pick on him.

lol what has Levis shown? It's the NFL there is no rhyme or reason when it comes to QBs
two years of better completion percentages with less to work with.

Ewers will need to make a huge leap this year. And I didn't say Ewers wouldn't get drafted, I said he won't be playing on Sunday's, as in he won't be a starter -- I think he will end up as a mid-late round pick if his level of play stays where it is at and he will bounce around as a career backup.
A Jexas QB destined to hold a clipboard? Not exactly taking a huge risk there.

Unless Ewers has a lights out season, he comps closer to Ehlinger than Richardson.

That's disrespectful to Ehlinger. Ehlinger was actually mobile. No one is ever going to confuse Ewers as a mobile QB.

Cedric Benson had three years under his belt where he had run 1000+ each season. It’s just honest to tell AD that he wasn’t going to get the ball a ton in his first year.

Ehlinger was a Full Back pretending to be a QB. Like Tebow. Ewers is heads and shoulders better.

I feel bad for Sam.. as soon as Chucks WRs left, he had none.. We wasted him with WRs like Brenan Eagles/Malcolm Epps/FOrgot the kid that had a gun downtown name.. it was pitiful.. lol Herman was a WR guy too lol

lol Ewers is going to get drafted next year and he's going to have a really good year this season just with the weapons he has at WR and TE.

lol still judging Manning over a spring practice game..oh that's right.. offenses are supposed to look great vs vanilla defenses.. Arch is going to be fine.. just as Ewers will be.. just get ready for Arch to bend Jim over in Ann Arbor next year

Great part of this that people don't realize is that because of AD committing and signing with ou.. it led to Jamal Charles committing and signing with UT the following cycle. Had AD went to Austin, Charles would have went elsewhere. I think he was the perfect back in a committee in 2005, to complement VY. Wish he had stayed for his Sr season, I think UT would have ran the table and won the BCS title with him that year.

I agree ElTexan.. Mack was being right and loyal by riding with El Ced in 2004. People outside the state don't realize how big of a deal it was when he committed to UT... He's still a LEGEND of high school football players. He was the man.. he had more hype than AD did

Fair chance if AD went to TX that Chance Mock stays as our starter. Think on that.

Dude's initials are 'AP', but everyone seems to call him 'AD'. Just seems dumb imo. Don't really care what the backstory is.

Purple Jesus ftw.

Yeah, because Texas wasn't stacked last year at the skill positions, while having the best running back in college.

And YES -- offenses are supposed to look great against vanilla defenses. When an offense isn't dealing with multiple fronts, disguised coverages, hidden blitz packages, etc. and simply lining up -- it SHOULD be a QB's dream. If you struggle against THAT -- imagine how bad you will be when the defense actually game plans.

And personally -- I think Ewers will still be the QB in 2024.

Until Ewers shows it, that statement is categorically false. Ehlinger put up better numbers across the board PASSING than Ewers has. When you add in the rushing for Ehlinger too and it is an even more lopsided for Ehlinger.

And Ehlinger has more heart and desire to win. Ewers wants the easiest path and hasn't shown that he will lay it on the line to get the extra yard. Ewers might contend with Colt as the most selfish Jexas QB in the last few decades.

it was his first season.. in which he also got hurt and missed some time lol

lol if Ewers only had the heart of ... Haynes King, Calzada, Johnson or Weigman..lol stop it.

Did I say any of those had heart?

Did I say any of those had heart?
they ALL have heart man.. Ewers was still out there trying to sling balls downfield no matter how bad the offense was struggling.. Worthy also having a slump season didn't help.. I can't count how many balls he let go through his hands.. also can't count the times Ewers over threw him either.

What really hurt a year ago is that the one WR he seemed to get a great feel with (sorta like CJ and JSN) was Isaiah Neyor.. He was the WR who was on the other end of Ewers highlights last spring season. He gets hurt in the first scrimmage of fall camp and was out for the year. He returns this season, but AD Mitchell seems to be that guy this spring that he has a connection with.

There is no excuses for Ewers, Worthy and most importantly..SARK for this year. This is year 3 and he better win the conference. Sure there is no more Bijan or Rojo in the backfield but they return every starter from a year ago that had 2 true freshmen (sometimes even 3) starting on it. UT has the best bookends on the OL in the Big12 and probably in the country. They have a legit threat at TE in JaTavion Sanders and a terrific true freshmen in Johntay Cook at WR.

I can't remember a WR room this loaded or a TE as good as Sanders in over a decade plus.

Like I keep saying, Ewers is going to be fine..QBs do better from year 1 to 2 starting (like Sam) and the offense is loaded at the skill positions..even with an inexperienced RB room. There's no excuses for Sark.. he better break through

@fordman84 If Haynes taking a beating behind that OL of y'all a season ago makes you think he has no heart.. i don't know what to tell you.. Max and Connor included.. takes a lot of heart knowing your offensive line can't pass block for shit yet you still hang in the pocket
