Texpectations: Longhorn Superthread

If Ewers was 6'4" 235 Lbs and ran a 4.4 40 with a cannon for an arm -- Then yes, I'd agree, he will be a 1st round pick. Ewers looks NOTHING like Richardson. Isn't on the same planet athletically either. Ewers is the opposite of that though. He is short for the NFL at 6'1" and unless you are uber athletic or crazy accurate -- That is a long road for someone who wants to be a college QB.

And Arch looked TERRIBLE in the spring game. He threw the ball 14 times for 30 yards. Any way you want to try and frame it -- he looked lost.

That being said -- Ewers will be in the NFL, as some team will take a shot with him, but he will be holding a clip board, which should bode well for Texas, as I don't think he is going anywhere, as I bet he makes more from NIL than he will in the NFL, as I don't see anyone spending a 1st round pick on him.
I expect that from many people. They don’t actually look at the pressure he faced and mostly walk-on WRs he threw to. It’s a lazy take, but an expected one.

they ALL have heart man.. Ewers was still out there trying to sling balls downfield no matter how bad the offense was struggling.. Worthy also having a slump season didn't help.. I can't count how many balls he let go through his hands.. also can't count the times Ewers over threw him either.

What really hurt a year ago is that the one WR he seemed to get a great feel with (sorta like CJ and JSN) was Isaiah Neyor.. He was the WR who was on the other end of Ewers highlights last spring season. He gets hurt in the first scrimmage of fall camp and was out for the year. He returns this season, but AD Mitchell seems to be that guy this spring that he has a connection with.

There is no excuses for Ewers, Worthy and most importantly..SARK for this year. This is year 3 and he better win the conference. Sure there is no more Bijan or Rojo in the backfield but they return every starter from a year ago that had 2 true freshmen (sometimes even 3) starting on it. UT has the best bookends on the OL in the Big12 and probably in the country. They have a legit threat at TE in JaTavion Sanders and a terrific true freshmen in Johntay Cook at WR.

I can't remember a WR room this loaded or a TE as good as Sanders in over a decade plus.

Like I keep saying, Ewers is going to be fine..QBs do better from year 1 to 2 starting (like Sam) and the offense is loaded at the skill positions..even with an inexperienced RB room. There's no excuses for Sark.. he better break through

@fordman84 If Haynes taking a beating behind that OL of y'all a season ago makes you think he has no heart.. i don't know what to tell you.. Max and Connor included.. takes a lot of heart knowing your offensive line can't pass block for shit yet you still hang in the pocket
This isn't an A&M thread, I never mentioned A&M, not sure why you are making it about us.

And no, Ewers has no heart. He doesn't want to compete, he wants things handed to him. Ehlinger had heart and he would run through a brick wall to get a first down if the team needed it. Ewers appears to be like Colt and looking out for #1 only.

There were no excuses last year, just Texas fans making up excuses for them. Tell me the WR on Michigan that was better than what Texas had? Bet you can't. We had mediocre WR's and our 1st year QB still completed 65% of his passes for 2700+ yards, while also running for over 300 yards too.

On top of that -- Ewers had the best RB and best RB duo in all of college football to take the pressure off him.

I have no ill will towards Texas or Ewers. Just speaking as a CFB fan. The way he was talked about coming out of HS -- I was excited to see him play. Nothing he did was impressive and there were full games where he looked absolutely lost.

So the off target or underthrown balls were the WR's fault or was it the defensive players WHO AREN'T ALLOWED TO TACKLE HIM.

Texas fans have excuses for everything. The guy went 5-14 for 30 yards playing against a defense who wasn't disguising coverages, weren't blitzing, couldn't tackle him and you still have a list of excuses.

Here i thought the Michigan fans with blinders on have all the excuses, but Texas fans make them look tame.

We can check this in 2 years and see the results.

lol of course there was going to be excuses after he got hurt in game 1.. and even though he looked like he was on fire vs ou, he struggled like any freshman QB starting year one.

I don't understand the Michigan comparison, Harbaugh isn't in year 2.. and maybe if he had better WRs they would have fared better in the CFP? Again i don't get why they were brought up

The Michigan comparison is JJ McCarthy, like Quinn Ewers, being a 1st year starter who got to college the same year as Ewers.

The Michigan comparison is the vast difference in WR rooms, as Texas had light years more talent than Michigan had last year. Ronnie Bell is the only guy who may get drafted and it will be late if he does. Our WR's was the weakest position group of the team.

I can agree with the talent in the room.. UT really has a stacked room this coming season..

lol Quinn was part of the same class McCarthy was.. only cause he skipped his Sr season, enrolled at tosu 3 weeks from their opening game.. Let's see how they both fare this season?

JJ McCarthy and Quinn Ewers are the same age. Both are 20 years old. Both just had birthday's. Both spent a year with a college program before becoming a starter.

You continue to make excuses for him. And Texas was stacked at the skill positions last year.

JJ was an EE that January while Quinn was still in high school as a junior.. he didn't reclassify til the summer and enrolled at tosu 08/15.. I really don't see the reason why you are comparing them.. they both had different paths to last year as first year starters.

Because they both spent a full year in a college program before becoming a starting QB. You continue to bring up high school, when Quinn and McCarthy are the same age. You can twist the story however you'd like to make excuses for Ewers, but that's the truth.

lol Ewers didn't enroll at UT til January of '22..his first spring practices were there. JJ was entering his 2nd spring practice at UM at the same time.. I'm not twisting the story, i'm giving you actual dates..lol

I don't understand why you keep comparing them.. But if you want I guess we'll see how they both do this season coming up and see who gets drafted higher next April?

He practiced the entire year with Ohio State sans two weeks worth of practices in the Spring. He went thru a year of strength and conditioning at Ohio State. You keep talking as if Ewers was brand new to the college game and he walked on campus and Texas and was thrown to the wolves.

And I gave you dates too. Both QB's are 20 years old. Both QB's spent a year in a college program. Both were 1st time starting QB's last year. I'd LOVE to see what McCarthy could have done with the weapons Ewers had at Texas last year.

bro he didn't enroll at tosu till 08/15/21.. 2 weeks from their first game of the season.. He had no spring practices because he was still in high school.. He officially entered the transfer portal 12/03/21 and didn't enroll at UT til January of '22.

sure they can be the same age but Quinn should have been part of the '22 class, not the '21.. he literally skipped his Sr season (thanks to all the extra credits he was able to get because of Covid)..

Age is the only thing they shared thus far into their College careers.

You keep trying to push the high school narrative, when THEY ARE THE SAME AGE. Did Ewers NOT practice the entire season with Ohio State? The Spring practices you keep talking about consist of 15 practices total. Those 15 practices are what made Ewers struggle last year? If he had those practices -- he would have been a stud?

You are doing nothing but making excuse after excuse for him. What will it be if he struggles this year and Texas loses 4 or 5 games? Will it be Bijan left? Or the WR's fault?

what narrative? I don't know why Ewers got held back for or why his parents started school for him late. I'm just telling you that he only played 3 high school seasons and then graduated early.

Your guy EE after his sr season of football.. participated in winter conditioning, then spring practices, summer practices and a full fall camp.. all in his freshman CFB year..nevermind him doing all that again the following season heading into the '22 campaign

Quinn showed up in the middle of August to his first practice at tosu.. 3 months later he was in the portal and joined UT at the beginning of the new year. He participated in his first spring, summer and fall camps, fully a year ago.. Wins the job over Card, has a solid quarter then gets hurt... misses the next 3 games. Has ups and downs like most freshmen QBs who start for the first time.. especially ones who haven't started a football game since a HSFB playoff game in Dec of 2020.

Again I have no idea why you are comparing your guy to Quinn, other than maybe to say your so and so ranked QB outplayed your QB who is the same age? I dunno man, this is weird..

Did Quinn do something to you in Ann Arbor that year? Flash you while getting off the bus? Spit on you while he was sitting on the bench?

😂 😂 Again we'll see how they both fare this year and the draft next spring.. It's still such an odd comparison
Yes -- it is extremely odd to compare two players who play the same position, are both 20 years old, both spent a season in a college program before becoming the 1st year starters last year and both play for high profile universities.

I'm just curious -- what will the excuses be this year?

"spent a year in a college program" lol yeah..ok..

thing is despite your passionate take that your QB is better than Quinn, I'm willing to bet money that Quinn will be drafted higher than your guy next spring. Your boy probably won't even declare but comeback anyway
