Texpectations: Longhorn Superthread

The elite QB's typically are that during their first year starting. Not saying Ewers can't get better, but he needs to be a lot better to live up to his ranking. He was pretty awful the 2nd part of last year.
Yeah -- Ewers looks nothing like an elite QB. It is starting to make sense why he left HS early. He wanted to cash in on the NIL while the iron was hot. I don't see him playing on Sunday's.

According to many here, he’s leaving for the NFL after his sophomore year.

Maybe to go watch a game as a fan. He is at the tail end of 247's list of a top 20 returning QB's in 2023, sandwiched between Wisconsin's Tanner Mordecai and Western Kentucky's Austin Reed.

The guy wasn't impressive at all. He has the talent to turn it around, but hasn't shown he can do it on a consistent basis. He just looked sloppy last year.

You are the one trying to say the plan was ALWAYS to redshirt Arch, as if Texas was set at QB with a returning all-american or something. Ewers was average at best. When you sign "the #1 overall recruit in the nation", the LAST THING he is thinking is, I'm going to redshirt.

From watching the Spring Game -- Arch will need more than a redshirt to get acclimated to the college game and it shows that his name is why he was the #1 recruit more than anything else. It also has to be alarming to Texas fans to have not one, but two #1 overall nationally ranked QB recruits on your team and neither looks like anything special.
lol what? the last #1 QB overall was Trevor who started after Dabo benched his original starter.. since then it was only Ewers (who reclassified and showed up to fall camp less than 3 weeks from the opener) who redshirted, and now Arch who will redshirt too. I don't understand the need to start right away even if you are the #1 overall recruit at QB

Trevor had a perfect 1.000 rating like VY (who also RS).. Arch didn't. This season it's Ewers team to lead.. he's not coming back next season, then it will be Arch vs Maalik next spring (which i feel Arch will win).. then we will all see it play out on the field instead of a scrimmage game.

lol it's alarming? Was it alarming last spring when he put on a show with Neyor? lol don't worry season is coming.. Arch is also coming in '24 to ann arbor to plant his foot on Jim's neck too

RS-Soph year.. He can have ok numbers, NFL coaches love him.. lol he would be a first rd pick next week if he were eligible

Ok, I love a good homerism troll as much as the next guy but you can't really believe that. I don't care how poor the QB class looks this year, there is nothing about Ewers college numbers that say 1st round NFL pick right now.

Ewers will win the Heisman this year.

Zero doubt.

seriously there was a mock if every CFB player were eligible.. Caleb was 1st overall, Ewers was like #30.. But Scouts love Ewers, he throws a pretty spiral..

Yes -- you have two QB's who were nationally ranked #1 recruit regardless of position. Ewers and Manning. And where exactly is Ewers going? He isn't even remotely close to being NFL ready. He is wildly inaccurate and needs to clean up so much in his game to hope to even get drafted, let alone leave early.

And not sure if you know this, but the Spring Game is a stage where it is set up for the offense to dominate. Defenses are as vanilla as you will ever see. There is no hitting the QB, there are no complex blitz packages, there is no hiding coverages. It is set up to make your offense shine. THAT is why it is alarming for Manning to look so lost out there.

As far as Arch in 2024 -- I truly hope he is Texas's QB in 2024, after we lose 17 or 18 starters after this year -- it'd give us a great chance to beat them.

lol Ewers would be drafted next week if he were eligible..

lol wait Spring games are for offenses to dominate?? lol you think the offense was calling "dynamic" plays against vanilla defenses?? lol alright brah i get it..

drafted? Yes. 1st round? I disagree. I don't care that PFF has clickbait that says he would go late in the 1st. Ewers to date hasn't shown anything to be worthy of 1st round. Doesn't mean he won't show it this year, but his first year coupled with the drama he brings is enough to get him off most teams 1st round board.
As for drama, he is always looking for the next thing regardless of what he has done so far.

My boy could throw a "pretty spiral" when he was 12.

To heck with zip and accuracy tho, right?

lol what has Levis shown? It's the NFL there is no rhyme or reason when it comes to QBs

Ewers will need to make a huge leap this year. And I didn't say Ewers wouldn't get drafted, I said he won't be playing on Sunday's, as in he won't be a starter -- I think he will end up as a mid-late round pick if his level of play stays where it is at and he will bounce around as a career backup.

but my girls can throw perfect spirals
