The Athletic absolutely destroys Deion Sanders

What are you trying to say exactly?
I'll say it in football terms:

A head coach who took a 1-win team, did not harvest the transfer portal, played in a tougher conference and improved to 7 wins did a better job than an overrated celebrity name who rebuilt an entire roster from the transfer portal, played in a dying conference and only improved from 1 win to 4.

Anyone who think Deion is COTY over the Northwestern guy should be banished to the Stop It White People thread and forced to eat everything on there.

I'll say this Hunter played both ways on a P5 team against P5 opponents and did it at a high level.

I can't hate on the kid and give him respect because that is an insane workload on a Sat.
The kid is an absolute stud but Deion was acting like a clown

But professional wrestling is real right?

Maybe if Deion beat a couple of good teams or something in those 4 wins it would be more impressive, but they didn't beat a single team over .500, lost to a 3-9 team in a game where they blew a 29-0 lead at home, got blown out by a 5-7 Wazzu squad and ended their season losing to a broken Utah team who was down to a walk on QB (I know Colorado was playing a backup but their situation was still much better)

All the Colorado hype was generated by beating 3 bad 5-7 teams to start the year, which 2 of those games they coulda easily lost and barely won.

Not to be a stickler for the details...

But what in the world did he do that is worth praise? He got paid handsomely to coach a team that lost twice as many games as they won.

So Sports Illustrated names him, an underachieving coach, as Sportsperson of the year?

Never consider that rag worth reading again....

In 2016 Mel Tucker coached the Buffalos to a 5-7 record.

The guy Deion replaced, Karl Dorrell, had the same record Deion finished the year with 2 out of the 3 years he was there.

And the coach that was there before that guy... Mike Macintyre , had only one season with less wins than Deion in the 6 years he was there and they fired him during his last season even though he had 5 wins! SI didn't name him as Sportsman of the year that year...I know, crazy huh?!?

Pac 12 was the toughest I’ve ever seen it this year.

Everyone in the Pac 12 got better. Colorado got worse. But yeah, he sold a lot of sunglasses so I guess there's that? :noidea:
Actually, besides Washington and Oregon, everyone else's record in 2023 is worse than 2022, except Stanford and ASU which is the same. So for CU to have the same conference record as last year, it's actually worse for ol' Coach Prime.

That is probably a bad thing, right? Most kids today don't know who Warren Sapp is, and just because you were a good NFL player doesn't make you a good coach.

We have this discussion on our UGA boards all the time - people wanting to hire Hines Ward as a WR coach. He's coaching at a lower level to learn the ropes, but you don't just jump into coaching. Even Deon started at the high school level with his kids and moved up with them.
Cmon man I got to explain HOF career and south Florida relationships to you? My guess is he will pull in a few solid recruits and coach pretty good.

Same

1-8 in conference

Couldn’t beat a winning team

Sorry, bro. Maybe next year?

Time will tell but that conference was loaded this year more than I’ve ever seen in all muh days of watching college football

Did you see this? Haha

I got to explain to you that being a HOFer and from South Florida doesn't mean shit when it comes to being a coach or recruiter? I mean the best two recruiters in the country are two short, white men who were never HOF players in the NFL, and don't live in South Florida. There is a lot more to being one of the 10 coaches on a CFB team than being a HOFer. If you could just throw out HOF credentials and your address, there would be a ton of ex-NFL guys coaching in CFB.

A few solid recruits isn't enough, and you have no idea if he can coach a lick.

Relationships man. Warren Sapp has always been a beast. And who does colorado currently have recruiting in south FL?

You don’t know shit

They couldn't beat 3-9 Stanford, got destroyed by 5-7 Wazzu and needed a last second FG to beat 3-9 Arizona State. They weren't just failing against the better teams.

Wazzu deserves to be in a bowl. Usually im
Laughing at the Pac 12 about now but this year it was different. Stanford and ASU yes garbage.

Expecting a lot of colorado after last year and in that conference is silly. Year 2 and 3? Not so much

you assholes just suck me into this every time.

You can’t build a team that fast especially the Oline and Dline
