Someone on Facebook make a fire will bolt thread. Sadly. No one agreed with him. So I just shut my mouth
Firing Bolt had legs a month ago, but Nebraska's won 4 conference series in a row since then and if they beat Purdue today or tomorrow it would be 5 conference series wins in a row to close the regular season.
They've basically spent the last month climbing out of the gutter they dug themselves into.
Outside of a win over current #9 Vandy and a series win over #7 Oregon St. they pissed the front half of the season away. That's not to mention losing the cretin series (1-2).
I wouldn't lose any sleep over him being fired since I don't see Will Bolt as ever being a Dave Van Horn quality coach.
I see the argument to retain him since he was given a contract extension last August through 2029, so his buyout is $2 million. He's also got 2 NCAA Tourney Regional births in 5 years.
College baseball is all about peaks and valleys. Nebraska's been peaking which is what any team wants to do going into the post season.
The problem with using the term "
peaking" on Nebraska is they've been "
peaking" against the lower end of the conference.
The current Big 10 standings are....
1) Iowa (21-7). Nebraska
lost that series (1-2)
2) Oregon (20-8). Nebraska
did not play them.
3) UCLA (20-8). Nebraska got
swept (0-3)
4) USC (17-11). Nebraska
lost that series (1-2)
5) Washington (16-12). Nebraska
lost that series (1-2)
Without the Big 10 Tournament auto-bid, Nebraska's obviously not going to make the NCAA Tourney with a #67 RPI.
For that matter Iowa (#69 RPI) could be left out of the NCAA Tournament if they don't win the Big 10 'regular season'. See Rutgers a couple years ago who finished #2 in the Big 10 regular season standings, but got left out of the NCAA Tournament due to having a shitty RPI.
At this point only Oregon and UCLA are sure to get into the NCAA Tourney. Iowa's got the best chance of any other Big 10 team of getting an NCAA bid without getting the Big 10 Tourney auto-bid.
IMO, if Iowa wins the Big 10 regular season, they will likely be the 3rd Big 10 team in.
Everybody else is playing for an auto-bid. Nebraska's only advantage with that is playing the Big 10 Tourney in Omaha. However, they're going to have to get through the 4 previous PAC 12 teams to do it.
Husker baseball is like other Nebraska men's sports. The only time they focus and play up to potential is when the fans and media are screaming at them for being losers.
Xbox, Little Caesars 'Hot-n-Ready', and Suzy Rottencrotch are just too powerful to resist.
