Thee PAC 12, Big 10, and ACC (Alliance) are Dividing Up tOrphaned 8 As We Plorst.

I watch WVU football.

I've been watching them since the 80's.

They'll field some decent teams now and then and even played for a couple natties.

I think Brown will get them to respectability.

Not a bad get at all for the ACC and a better fit than the Big 12 for travel and culture.

9 fucking pages and here is what we know....

1. No evidence these 3 conferences are going to expand at all.
2. WVU is not getting into ACC.
3. ND is STILL not going to join the ACC.
4. No evidence that this is an “alliance” to “counter” the SEC.
5. Nobody outside the inner circle of these conference leaders know what it is all about.
6. We will find out soon.

Meh. We really don't know #2 either. Even #3 for that matter.

Nebraska played a "Kick-off Classic" in East Rutherford, NJ against WVU back in 1994 on Aug 28th.

Do they even have "Kick-off Classics" anymore?

They were always the first game to open the season. It was supposed to be like a bowl game in August.

The way the business is moving streaming will become a huge factor. It’ll be about actual eyeballs, a team like WVU with its many rivalries would be a perfect fit for the ACC. Right now a network like ESPN might not but down the road it’s very possible.

And let’s get one thing straight, if the NIL wasn’t a thing this thread wouldn’t exist as OU and Texas would still be in the Big 12. It Took a massive change (independent business’ paying players) to make it happen.
NIL has zero to do with it because it’s not schools paying the players. It has everything to do with Network contracts and OU/TX asked FOX what would be the ballpark for the next contract and there weren’t any increases coming.

This had everything to do with the SEC’s new contract and the clause that guarantees that contract is increased proportionally if they add members.

It’s the Big 12’s fault because they drove half of their big rivalries out of the conference due to uneven revenue sharing and the problems with deals like the LH network. They have been bleeding ratings since then.

If the Big 12 still had Texas A&M, Nebraska and Colorado still in the league plus even revenue sharing and a conference network then absolutely it would not only have survived but thrived. Instead Texas picked your pocket, helped kill the league and then bailed when the end of the gravy train was coming.

Also, WV doesn’t bring 19 million dollars worth of eyeballs with it. You need wake up to reality on that.

Yeah but they don’t call it that. That’s what all these neutral site games are.

I loved those.
I think there was 2. The Kickoff Classic, then the Pigskin Classic came later, I think.

Nebraska always seemed to sign up for those.

Saying NIL had nothing to to do with it is bullshit.

No one available save ND brings the money needed to expand the pot yet people (you included) are still talking about expansion. That’s the reality here. Please stop acting like the ACC adding 1 more team is some momentous thing that is impossible.

You kicked the shit outta us too. I forget the score but remember it was a shutout.

Maybe the Alliance will bring back the Kickoff Classics. The neutral site SEC games kind of replaced them though.

EDIT:

We do currently have the following:

Alabama vs. Miami - Atlanta
Kansas State vs. Stanford - Arlington
Georgia vs. Clemson - Charlotte
Louisville vs. Ole Miss - Atlanta

They are all neutral site games that kind of fit the Kickoff Classic description.

Not really Kickoff Classic Material but we also have Notre Dame at FSU and LSU at UCLA in week 1 not to mention a couple of Conference Game matchups for the B1G (notable Ohio State vs. Minnesota and Nebraska vs. Illinois).
