Thirsty Thursday

We only have one team in town, so we have to "travel" to play our games against the teams from the township.

I guess we're now #elite.
are you going to bring in Rob as you assistant coach?

I hear he picks up a mean pizza

Seriously, I was surprised that they started tee ball at 4 (so some of the kids are 3 going on 4) here. I get that I'm old, but we were doing tee ball at 6 and 7, then doing coach/player pitch at 8. Now they have kids that just got out of diapers trying to field grounders.
I think I started at 5? And depending on when you're bday was there was a few 4 year olds. I don't really remember it, but my parents told me it was pretty stupid. Especially when they come from families who don't really do anything baseball related outside of finally signing up for t-ball.

For me I was always playing catch with my brother or dad. Or watching a game. So early on, I was always better than everyone else. Despite being by far the smallest. But some of these kids, the first time they ever are introduced to baseball is the first time they step on the field. So combine that with them being 4/5, it just becomes an even bigger shit show.

I was on the district teams, but my dad wouldn't let me do the travel stuff. Also wasn't allowed to play fall ball until my junior and senior years of high school. Played different sports each season, and could only play one.
I was only allowed fall ball once. And it was when I moved up from tball to coach pitch. I don't remember much of it except that the coach was a giant ass.

I think we had an allstar team that would do district tournament around 10. Even then, my parents wouldn't let me do it because of their work and the time it took.
That was so nice of them to tell you that was the reason after the coach had told them you play ball like Chris Burke.

Gotta start recording swings and emailing my notes to the parents.

JFC how fucking old are you. I had to look up who the hell that even was. BTW, looks like Mark Zuckerberg in about 10 years.

it's all about psyching out your opponent.
One of the kids is like 4'6" already. I'm going to have him pitch for no other reason than to scare the shit out of those puny kids that he's a foot taller than.

Grand was one of them last year as a 3 year old bc he begged. Luckily his bday was the cutoff date so he could. He loved it and is ready for this year.

I think there's 9u around here. Can't fathom it. We didn't even do district tournaments before 10. I'm coaching 6-7 year olds now, and I can't imagine what a travel game of coach pitch looks like.
If you want to be the best, you got to play the best.

a buddy of mine who lives in Arizona has his kids in baseball and football and his boys have full on gear for all the sports....I have to roll my eyes at how these kids are looking out on the field
Deuce saved up his money for the past 6 months from allowance, Christmas, and extra chores to buy a real football helmet. Just came this week. Said he wants to practice catching the ball with a helmet on.

He uses football gloves during his games, but I don't let him use them at home. I told him if he can catch without the gloves on, he sure as hell will be able to catch with them on during real games.

Tank was apparently upset that he couldn't practice with Ham's team last night. He's got 2 more years to go.

Coal is driving me nuts. He wants to do everything Deuce does. Melted down when we had to give most of the goalie gear back to the coach because it belongs to the hockey program. Little shit dresses up in everything Deuce has. I'm convinced he's going to be a sports equipment salesman.
