Another POV.
Upon the replays and being able to see these breakdowns, I do agree that with @Wingsauce7 when I believe he said that Scheifele could have made a play on the puck. Initially, I didn't think he could have made a proper attempt at poking the puck away. When I am looking at some of these still frames, he was certainly close enough to try.
Idk, it's tough. Kinda like both of the guys in these videos said, it is a weird play. The hit does look clean to me, I still think the charging call is completely fair. My view is more in line with the first video, but I understand where the guy in this video is coming from.
That's one of the bigger bullshit things, he doesn't HAVE to do a diving poke check (and again, diving towards a post is completely fucking stupid. Easy way to fuck up your shoulder on the post or break your wrist if your stick gets trapped on the post) according to the rules of the game. He's allowed to use his body to move the guy off the puck. A half second earlier, he does that. Hell, you could say if he DOESN'T pull up like he does at the hash marks, he probably would have gotten there to lay the hit in time. But of course that would be clear "charging" if he doesn't pull up...yet he still got called for it anyway.
DoPS can eat the biggest bag of dicks on the explanation of the context, which appears to be half the reason for the punishment (other half being the outcome of the hit)"his intention was to deliver a hard, violent check to an opponent with the outcome of both the play and the game already having been decided." he makes contact before the puck crosses the goal line. The game hasn't been decided at that point. The play is not over. That's a chickenshit explanation to try and sell that they are punishing for an injury. You're allowed to finish a check. You're allowed to attempt to get a guy off a puck with your body. You get half a second to put your body on a guy even after they have completed a shot or pass. The league needs to come out and admit they are being pussies and punishing for an injury.
FTR, I have no dog in this fight as a Caps fan (if anything, I'm rooting for Montreal in this series since they knocked out the Leafs and that's awesome and Winnipeg sends tens of thousands of assholes down here every year to shop and they are complete morons when it comes to driving), I just think DoPS has no fucking clue about punishing for intention and context instead of outcome.
