My wife is the same way. About once a year there is a local library that will do "book sales by the inch". Stack up the books and pay some price, I think $1-$2, for every inch tall the stack is.

Problem is a couple of times we have donated those same books back to them after some time. oh well.

Libraries where I lived had tons of technical book donations from people at Microsoft, Amazon and Google and set them out for sale.
Donors probably got tax deductions.
At the library sales softcovers were $.50 and hardcovers - some retailing for $49.99 - were only $1.00.
