tOfficial B1G Thread

He's come close a few times. Last year we almost lost to Illinois right before OSU, had to kick a game winning field goal at the very end to win 19-17.
That Illinois defense was impressive.

That game and all year.

Really got lost in the shuffle at the end of the season. Their secondary was one of the best I’ve seen in tBIG in a long time.

Michigan is built to beat Ohio State and win the Big 10, but not necessarily to win the national title. Not saying they COULDNT because they've at least made the playoff. And one of these times they may, but after losing badly to UGA and managing to lose to a mundane TCU team in last years Semi i'd still say they are a bit away from being able to realistically say "yea they are gonna win it all"

Ohio State is built to be in better position to win national titles but not necessarily to always win the Big 10

funny how it works.
They're built to beat Ohio State if we assume our defense is going to be bad like it has been the past couple years, but these seasons are far from indicative of what to normally expect from OSU. It's logical to assume we take a step forward on defense this year, it's just a matter of what McCord looks like. He can make all the throws, and we've got the top offensive weapons (WR+RB+TE) in the nation, so I'm not too worried.

I don’t worry about McCord it’s the OL in pass protection that concerns me. No QB is going to succeed if he’s constant running for his life or on his back

Wypler and Dawand should've come back for sure. If they had we'd be sitting great, but I still don't think we're in a bad spot. Jackson will be another 1st rounder, and I think Fryar is being overlooked. The Simmons kid we got from SDSU also looks the part. Again, with the talent we have at the skill positions, it's not like teams are going to be able to send the house very often or they'll get burned. Plus practicing against our front 7 will be their toughest challenge for nearly the entire year.

Somewhere Saban is smiling....

I'd wager quite a bit of money -- Ohio's defense will look great against all the teams they vastly overmatch with talent, but the same thing will happen to the defense against teams with talent on the offensive side of the ball.

Unless Ohio has someone make an astronomical leap and has a CB turn into a lock down corner or a DE that turns into a Bosa brother or Chase Young -- not much will change with their results on the field. They simply do not have the dominant forces on defenses they have had in the past. That is their problem.

Michigan returns almost their entire offense and will have Blake Corum back as well, barring another injury. I like our chances of doing the exact same thing as we have the last two years.

Well, as I've proven numerous times, the last two years were dramatically different games, but go on and think you're gonna bust 4 70+ yard TDs again.

The only reason we were able to do that is because OSU was hilariously committed to trying to stop the 3-5 yard runs. I suspect if you try to stop the long plays, we'll revert back to the 2021 plan.

We'll see if it works.

scratch that..UM we are COMING (to your) HOME..in a year
That's going to be a super fucking weird season. Texas fans chanting S.E.C in Michigan Stadium, UCLA playing at Michigan Stadium wearing B10 patches, going to LA to play a conference game against USC.

Also, lol....we play Texas, USC, Ohio State, & UCLA in the regular season. Going to have to enjoy the lack of anxiety involved in the nonsense MAC teams we play this year. All my fingernails are going to be gone next year.

4 out of the last 5 seasons OSU has been pretty mediocre on defense(2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022). Avg defense efficiency rank of those 4 is 30.75. The defense was better last year than 2021, but still not great by any means. There's probably only 2 teams that can take advantage of a suspect defense on your schedule though, so you should be fine(outside those two games).

I think they should take another step forward this year. Probably not elite but good. Front 7 should be very good IMO but the backfield will again be the liability. There is potential there but between injuries and just some boneheaded play last season it looked awful when they had to step up

Yeah we've made some questionable hires on that side of the ball. Leaving it to Coombs in 2020 and 2021 was pretty stupid. 2022 wasn't a surprise to see with Knowles implementing a dramatically different system from whatever the hell you'd call our 2021 defense. Like I said earlier, I think it's fair to see us take a step forward this year. It certainly isn't as if we don't have talent on that side of the ball.
