Hell man, when my son played AAA hockey, it was around that just for the registration fee. Throw in team specific jerseys/equipment, airline fees, hotels, camps, clinics, etc, I spent around $9/$10K.

it was practically legal theft.
Muh gawwwwd. :tsk: :tsk:

Yeah - I know. Hockey is a ridiculously expensive sport.
Tell me about it. After 2 years, when he said he wanted to take his last year off to concentrate on school, I was torn. I missed watching him play but my checking account sure was thankful.

They should question the stains on the mags in his office lobby...
who has magazines anymore...?

Dole... it's 2020. Anybody does any waiting, they're playing some stupid game like candy crush, their scrolling some feed or another... but they sure as shit don't pick up a magazine....

I bet you still have a vinyyl cover on your plaid davenport.

Only when I'm doing it on an elevator.....

Ain’t no love like love in an elevator

I tried a move once with this girl I was dating where I paused the elevator between floors so we could screw, but I mis-timed it. She had to go to the bathroom really bad. Really, really bad, and the elevator would not re-start.

I pressed the alarm button for about 10 minutes before someone finally released the thing. She got to the apartment and bathroom just in time.

No more elevator stunts for me after that.

Yeah, hockey is crazy expensive, even up here. The wife and I shelled out about $2500 each for my son to play rep baseball and rep soccer.

JFC 5K?

I thought muh bro was fng nutz for shelling out like $2300 ... and that's not including any travel/hotel expenses along the way and he's always going hundreds of miles dayum near every weekend for these tourneys.

It's fng nutzo.

What happened to the days of just free little league like when I was a kid?

Yeah, what happened? Unfortunately, a lot lower-income families will be priced out of competitive sports.

Yup.

I couldn't even imagine to have to pay fer hockey .... yeeeesh!

you got to keep them busy! :thumb:

Honestly, the wife and I "gave up a lot" of things, but, it was well worth it.

Now that the kids are grown up, I've gone on a bit of a spending tear. New synthesizers, trip to Thailand (sent the wife and kids to Serbia to see their family), new car, and a shit ton more. Probably time for me to put the credit card down and stay off of Amazon for a while. Nah, fuck it.

I’ve been told teams like Belle Tire and Honeybaked get subsidized by their corporate sponsors. So one year we were told a major athletic apparel manufacturer (shall remain nameless) was going to sponsor us, so all us parents got excited by potential savings. Only to find out all they did was provide these cheap looking warmup suits 😡

This. I may have complained about the cost, but man did I love watching him play.

One deployment when I returned from Afghanistan, first day back he had practice, so I took him. All the other parents were surprised to see me and asked when I got back. When I said just this morning, they asked why was I there, they would have given him a ride.

I said are you kidding; this is where I’ve wanted to be for the last 10 months.
