Top 5 wuss rock bands

What the fuck is wrong with you people?

Boston? They had sharts with more talent that any of you fuckers!
Chicago? I think you mean Peter Cetera, they were a very talented band aside from Cetera's whiny shit.
Journey? If you didn't at least pretend to like Journey you remained a virgin!
KISS? Fuck off, growing up in the 70's KISS was fucking awesome, it's about the live show!
Styx? If you were 12 when Paradise Theater came out you would have liked it!

@fordman84 nailed it in post #2 I would add The Beach Boys, Dave Mathews & Matchbox 20

I liked some of Styx especially Grand Illusion. Styx problem was Dennis Deyoung was a wussy, but the Tommy Shaw and James Young songs some of those rocked like Miss America and Blue Collar Man. Those two were damn good guitar players just Deyoung hindered them.

Dudes was a two-bit no-talent drug-addicted moron who’s famous cause he blew his head off with a shotgun.

“Brilliant!” GTFO
Cobain absolutely sucked on guitar. Grunge was anti-metal blow back. And the record companies said yeah and then all metal was gone from major labels and many metal went grunge/alternative posers (I see you Metallica)!!!!! Let's intentionally play shitty guitar except Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains. He can play guitar.

The first couple of Journey albums were amazing. To be honest, things did go more the way of the wuss once Steve Perry got involved.

Boston were all first class players. Tom Scholz is a musical genius in terms of production; he's also one hell of a Hammond B3 organ player as well. Foreplay displays Tom's amazing chops. To be fair, I don't think anyone actually called Boston a wuss band.

Chicago were also incredibly talented jazz/rockers. I agree that If You Leave Me Now should go down in the annals of wuss, but pretty much everything they did prior to 1974 was top of the table good.

Although Styx had some great albums in the 70's, I tend to agree that by the 80's, their feet were firmly planted in a field of wuss. I would say that calling them out for wussage, pre-1980 is just wrong, though.

Personally, I wouldn't call Kiss wussy. Cheesy at times perhaps, but not wussy. Like you said though, it was one of the greatest shows in rock at that time.
Boston was never really a band in a traditional way. It was Tom Scholz in studio and few side musicians. He was a ego maniac and it fell apart pretty quickly.

Kiss was wuss in the 80's but in 70's I like some of their stuff. I have Love Gun, Rock And Roll Over and Alive II on vinyl. Rock And Roll Over my favorite album.

I have pre-Steve Perry Journey albums too on vinyl too. Early Journey was an offshoot of Santana with Gregg Rollie and Neil Schon. Kind of progressive guitar and keyboard rock and Rollie sang everything like he did in Santana.

Suite Madame Blue is one of my favorites too. Pre Tommy Shaw Styx. Guitar solo in that rips.

Pearl Jam wussy. Eddie Vedder poser with absolutely God awful vocals. Like fingers going down a chalk board. Just look at this pic. Yikes.

Forgot to add this band to my list. One of the all time wussies Billy Corgan. Yikes. Some hair metal is wussy, but the 90's rolled out some real vile wussies who no musicianship at all like these girls (errr guys.....err girls.....).

Note: I mean top 5 wussiest bands, not the 5 best

I’ve got:

1. Chicago
2. Journey
3. Styx
4. REO Speedwagon
5. The Beatles

What you got?

Journey sucked balls. Most ballad rock bands do. But the others...those bands had brilliant pieces they put together for their day. The evolution of those bands over time was beyond very special as well. Not many trumpet playing bands can do what Chicago did over their career.

You want panzie rock from that era ... Sugar, Sugar by the Archies. And anything David Cassady did.

Good lord this thread is awful. Here is something from that time that was spot on.. War bitches.

Sweet madame blues was a great song for that day.

What would you classify them as? I don't know of any other label that really fits both bands, other than pop rock.
I would consider them pop. Bee gees were most known for disco which falls under R&B. That is just how I see it. I know the industry casts a wide net and classifies everything under the rock label

Delp played some.

Wuss ROCK. The Archies and David Cassady were clearly pop

The only Journey I know is the Steve Perry version

I wouldn't call Boston wuss rock, but I don't really dig em. No real edge, and too polished for my tastes.

So, Chicago had like 3 years of being real, and then like 25 years of being basically elevator music? They were wuss longer than they weren't. The only two Chicago songs I've ever heard are "If You Leave Me Now" and that gay ass Inspiration song, any band willing to record shit like that will only be considered wuss rock to me.

Agreed with Kiss. I'm not a fan, but they don't really register on the wuss scale for me.

Fair enough. I've always hated labels because they're so subjective.

One is disco the other made love songs........I wouldnt even call either soft rock....

Some of the Bee Gees was disco, but they've been around since the mid-60's so I don't think you can just label them as disco. Disco is also a sub-genre of rock; although, if you don't want to consider them rock -- fair enough, it's your choice.

To be fair, I don't consider Weather Report jazz (it's jazz-fusion), but a lot of people refer to them as jazz.

As someone who's been trying to learn the ins and outs of recording engineering for the last 4 years, I can actually appreciate the "polished" sound of Boston; moreover -- Tom Scholz. He recorded that entire first album in his basement back in 1976. It was actually a benchmark for production at the time. Musically though, I don't hate Boston, but I don't love them, either.

Polished will always be an insult to me when referring to a musician. Good music needs grit and edge. Boston isn’t a wuss band, they’re just incredibly bland and uninteresting. Zero songs on my playlist
