Tuesday...National Check Yo Wipers Day

I'd a corollary to 4. A lot of the younger generation has decided to have a lifestyle built on side hustles and found out working for yourself ain't so bad.
Yes that is a good point too. I am hearing more and more people who are just becoming a jack-of-all trades doing misc. things rather than go back working for an employer

Where did all of the workers go? I honestly don’t understand it. We just got a notice from our school district that they’re short 24 bus drivers. Did they all go to work for Amazon? How is it that every business needs more people?

Maybe there are new Bermuda Triangles opening and buses are just driving directly into them.

They might have to, because there aren’t enough people working at Kroger. No carts in the store and rarely more than two or three checkers working. Most times, you have to help them bag just to keep the lines moving.
I went to the pharmacy last night. Normally its open till 9 pm. Sign on the window says they are closing at 4. I asked one of the employees if this was going to be their new hours of operation and she said no that someone took the day off, and the person who does the scheduling never bothered to fill the shit.

IMO the pandemic has provided an excuse for shitty performance. People no longer give a shit and just use Covid as an excuse

Its a nationwide and industry wide problem. I have also found that while some states have ended their assistance programs they may still be receiving federal aid
The federal benefits ended too

As mentioned the issue is pretty complex and not one simple fix or simple partisan political point

I'll give just one example, my friends wife has decided to not return to work force and instead doing her as an artist, she makes a lot less $$, but they've been able to get by just fine. So one person out of workforce that was previously in it, but will never return.

She's not lazy, she's just pursuing her own passions and they have ability to do so. Also with children having to do schooling from home last year, and even this year their kid had to spend 2 weeks at home after covid exposure, it makes most sense

but on the hoop, we're not interested in logic or complex answers

Definitely attitudes have changed. Reduced hours is also a new phenomenon that I think were going to have to get used to. A couple of weeks ago, the wife wanted to go to Bath & Body Works on a Sunday. I checked online to see when they opened and it said 11:00 AM. We get there around 11:30 and they’re not open. The woman stocking the store unlocked the door and said they don’t open until 12:00 now “due to COVID”. I guess COVID prevents them from updating their hours on their website as well…

Yes we have started to develop the practice of checking websites, which isn't always accurate like you said, or calling before we go places now

the ACE Hardware down the street from me decided to close on Sundays when COVID hit and they haven't brought it back...making me think they won't.

it took me a couple weeks to realize that they aren't an option for getting stuff for the house on Sundays anymore.

I am certainly open to logic and complex answers. I stated in an earlier post that there are multiple reasons for the workforce shortage. if someone has the ability or means to leave a job and follow a passion I say good for them. That is one of multiple reasons however.

Other reasons are the American work ethic simply sucks and there are still people getting money from either the Fed or state govt. Just last week I got a child tax credit thingy deposited

Not my place to tell them their business (because they surely know more about it than I do), but it seems to me closing on a Monday would make more sense than Sunday. Lowe’s and Home Depot are always busy on Sundays.

I agree...not sure why they picked a Sunday to close.

I would tend to agree. You would think weekends would be your prime business days because that is when most people are going to tackle hardware store type projects. But they obviously have data we do not.

Yes, i realize not everyone is leaving to follow their passion project

I also don't believe it's because young people are lazy, sure some are, but so were prior generations. Some of the jobs not being filled, lets be honest, suck.

I don't have the answers though, I just get tired of lazy narratives that focus on (benefits that have ended) and lazy young people

And I agree benefits should've ended and there missteps along the way.

I guess it would depend on whether they get more business from weekend warriors or tradespeople. I would think that Ace would be more the former than the latter, but that’s just an uneducated guess.

your septic ain't winning though
word, had never been on my own septic before buying this place and i'm a paranoid enough person, this is what i've gone with

Apparently some of old buildings in our cities, as well as some poorer countries, can't have TP flushed, so you have to put TP/wipes in the trash and not the shitter.

Groce.
can't believe some countries just have a fucking hole in the floor and a hose to clean yourself off with. fucking savages.
