Think i'll be going to the F1 race in Austin this year.. my buddy in Dallas gets tix through his company every year, I was too busy with the new house and all to go last year.

is it sorta the same?

NASCAR races at that same track now. Never been to an F1 race, but I would love to go. I’m a motor head. I like all kinds of auto racing other than drag
 
I hear the race track was installed in honor of their likely Heisman Trophy winning running back.

Bowman Gray Stadium used to be a NASCAR sanctioned track and had Winston Cup races back in the 60' and 70's. It's a 1/4 mile track mainly used today for modified cars. They used to play football there as well. But I remember David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, and Richard Petty used to race there.

I've been to numerous late model races there. Winston-Salem State still pays football there.
