Weekly: what would the playoff look like today

like you said who knows with the pac
USC also has a currently top 10 ND along with 5 other ranked Pac teams
Washington same boat different problems with 5 ranked pac teams.
the thing for both is that Stanford has been the only P5 between the 5 games for them so i dont know if we really know just how good they are or where some problems might be.
the other currently ranked pac teams
Oregon State has played no one still has 6 currently ranked pac teams
Oregon won ugly at TT still has 6 currently ranked Pac teams
WSU looked good beating Wisconsin. still has 5 currently ranked Pac teams
Colorado beat 2 P5 teams and looked good doing it. still has 6 currently ranked pac teams
Utah beat 2 p 5 teams with a mix of looked good and not as good but without their starting QB with 6 currently ranked pav teams
UCLA beat 2 g5 teams so cant really say what we know still has 5 currently ranked pac teams
The Pac12 is going to be a lot of fun to watch this year. I think Washington and USC are at the top but who the hell knows who makes it to the end.

Do you think it would actually verify that way?
All he is doing is taking the rankings as they are today and putting them into the 12 team CFP formula. Obviously they will change dramatically as the year goes on. It's just an enjoyable exercise on a sports board.

week 3 rankings
1. UGA vs 4. Tx
2. Michigan vs 3. FSU

12 team
1 UGA vs winner of 8 Washington vs 9 Notre Dame
4 Texas vs winner of 5 USC vs 12Tulane

2 Michigan vs winner of 7 Penn State vs 10 Alabama
3 FSU vs winner of 6 Ohio State vs 11 Tennessee
Inject that straight into my veins. Hopefully the NIL and transfer portal will continue to drive parity so that we get 8-16 teams at least deserving to be in the tourney.

Going to be even more hate than usual there.

the Fresno State USC would be the only first round game that woundt garner much attention. but Fresno has gone to and beat Purdue and Arizona state. they arent the cream of the crop P5 teams but still. I would expect USC to roll them late but it would likely be close through the half.

Meant to start this with the preseason but oh well

So using preseason AP rankings and projections

4 team

1 UGA vs 4 Alabama
2 Michigan vs 3 Ohio State

12 team

1 UGA vs winner of 8 Penn State vs 9 Clemson
4 FSU vs winner of 5 Ohio state vs 12 Tulane

2 Michigan vs winner of 7 LSU vs 10 Texas
3 USC vs winner of 6 Alabama vs 11 Washington
How did Ohio State go from 3 to 5? Makes no sense. If they were 3 of the 4, the would have to be in the top 4, right?

No we have gone over this. The 12 team proposal has to 4 conference champs getting 1st round byes

Even worse, if this was next year what that would mean is Michigan vs. Ohio State to end the season, (assuming Penn State isn't a factor) immediately play again in the B10 title game, and then immediately play again in the playoff. Obviously the losses would switch things around but that sounds dumb.

I could see UGA, Texas and FSU going undefeated plus its a possibility for USC.

So the big question is if either Michigan or Ohio State does not go undefeated do they make the playoff? This could be an interesting year but teams can't drop a game.
On paper those three do seem to have the path of least resistance. Which means all of them will throw in a clunker or two. If they throw the clunker against the real bad opponents they can come through it. It they happen to throw it with a "decent" opponent on a goof roll..........

2 weeks at most until OU is in this

id buy that given the amount of ranked teams ahead of them playing other ranked teams. if they arent they will be close to it. but in 3 weeks they have Texas so for how long?

Look at the last 20 years

2005 has nothing to do with 2023
Every sports better know trends matter. Texas will be favored but the fact that OU has won 2/3 of all the big 12 championships matters. They may be turning the corner but no one underachieves like Texas.
