Well, Let's Discuss CFP Rankings For 11/29

The thing I don't "quite" get is Tennessee. They beat Alabama, they beat LSU at LSU. LSU beats Alabama. We think when Tennessee lost bad to South Carolina that the Gamecocks weren't that great. Then, they beat Clemson at Clemson. LSU who just lost to a bad Texas A&M team got beat by Alabama. Alabama's losses were close and not at home. Did the committee get it right?
Hendon Hooker's injury ruined any chance they had.

As long as none of the above are in the cfp, yeah.

Interesting...

Like... fine, but with that reasoning, why was UW ranked ahead of Utah last week then?

Guessing it has more to do with propping up the conference championship game than anything.

It's garbage. All about the CCG, which UW should be going to.

The ASU thing is annoying. Yes... they shouldn't have lost to them if they didn't want to worry about it. Obviously. But lame to use it as a conversation stopper. Again, yes... no real response to that, except why wasn't it a factor last week then? and why is it the sole justification in the same breath you talk about body of work but also won't discuss a ranked quality common opponent back to back weeks, and another ranked quality opponent that both teams beat but you're only citing as justification for one of them?

Garbage is a good summary of it, for sure.

Saying it's all about the full body of work, yet ignoring the previous week and H2H vs Oregone exposes it for the garbage it is.

...but yeah, it's all about the ASU loss.

Clowns are clowns.

It will be good for the game when these people have their say lessened.

However, based on these rankings, if bowls select based on rankings... Oregon has been knocked down to the Las Vegas Bowl unless Utah wins the CCG and USC goes to another former BCS bowl that's not in the playoff.

So it's not all bad. :dhd:

Of course the reranking for Utah was because they had to have the top two teams going to the CCG. It will all handle itself this weekend. If USC wins there is basically no way they can put a 4 loss team above UW's 2 losses, no matter what ASU's loss looks like.

Sure, it wasn't a good loss, but it was 2 months ago. UW rattled off 6 straight and beat two currently ranked top 25 teams in that stretch.

Even if they somehow kept Utah above UW after a CCG loss, the RB can still pick UW over them. They are not bound to the ranking for their selection. They are free to pick any team in the 'cluster' around the top one from the conference if they choose, but prefer not to.

Really doesn't matter anyway. The rankings are only key for the top 4 and at this point, those around it for position to move up after the CCG's this weekend.

And the only rankings that matter is that final one after next week. As they have proven this week, and pretty much every year prior, they have no problems leaping teams up from week to week even when there is no justification for games in that week.

Stars seem to be aligning for UW to go to the Rose, but I do not envy the task of facing tOSU (unless everyone sits out).

I'm torn. If UW ended up there but gets beat up pretty good, is that extra publicity a gain over a better showing at a lessor bowl for recruiting? Because that's all that really matters in the end.

I would like to see what Penix can do against a good defense, but boy does no one want to see what a solid O can do on that putrid D.

You take the better bowl, every time.

Hooker being out prob

Hopefully file attaches

Penix Jr. in 2021 faced 3 ranked teams at Indiana. Penn State, Iowa and Cincy. He went 41-94 with 495 yards passing and 2 td's with 7 int's. He did light up Ohio State in 2020 for almost 500 yards though.

Yall might throw for 600 yards against our secondary if that was the matchup.

Honestly, I can understand Alabama being ahead of Tennessee with Hooker hurt but I found that stat sheet interesting.

K?

That hasn't been his season this year. You can't strictly go off prior years when they are on an entirely different team. Caleb isn't the same kid at USC.

I don't know how well he'd do against a really good D, but I'm not using Indiana in injury plagued years as a guide.

Caleb was a true freshman last year. Of course he is going to grow as a player. Penix Jr. is in his 5th year and 4th year as a starter.

I agree the team is different, but I was simply letting you know how he did last year against ranked teams with good defenses.
