When I played, I had the odd game like that. Cant really remember if I was sober or not.
When I played it was 1964 or so for a couple of years.
Sand field with lots of grit. Brown leather soccer balls that turned into bricks when they got wet picking up that wet grit, spinning sand paper. Coach yelling "Put your head into it!"
We had never seen soccer on TV. Everybody knew how to play hockey because it was on TV.
We could barely get the kick-off done properly. And throw ins...
Anyway we had zero idea how to play. It was really just kick the ball as far as you can and hope for luck. Wingers were in dead zones. Crosses? Huh wah?
We were really, really out of touch with soccer. It didn't resonate.
Love watching it now though. Love TSN and hate that DAZN stole the Champion's League.
But I digress.
