Nebraska Cornhuskers The Official 10000 posts for a Husker Conference Championship

I actually don't mind Davison doing color commentating for football on the radio. But this is probably a good thing he's leaving the Athletic Department and probably saved some face and saved Trev a press conference.

^^ This ^^

I get it that boosters and fans (me included) wanted Frost as the next HC, but it was Davison and Benning that did the behind the scenes work to get him here.

Davison and Benning knew the issues on Frost once he got to Lincoln, but remained silent about it for years and kept kicking the can down the road. He's their buddy.

It finally all came to a head with the opening loss to Northwestern and the following loss to G5 Georgia Southern.

Trev likely knew about the issues too, but he had to get the 50% of boosters and fans that were still on Frost's side ("He's oh so close") to see the light.
With all the big time coaching changes in CFB last season, Trev played his cards right in bringing Frost back and letting it play out.
Had Trev fired Frost after the Iowa game last season and the program was still struggling under the new coach, there would be complaints about "You never should have fired Frost who was oh so close".

B1G win last night? man, it feels good to win a close, really ugly game.

But, our OL is just trash, that Lewis guy on their DL just destroyed whomever he went against, even splitting double teams. i just can't figure out if Raiola is that bad or if the guys are just not getting it. you can't even say it's a "they need to gel together" sort of thing, as them playing together won't prevent the 1v1 they were getting destroyed by. no push in the run game, usually Grant just making someone miss in the backfield. I'd like to see more QB run, as its kinda a saving grace when your OL stinks and it definitely looked like it was there, but Whipple won't call it and Casey isn't the guy to do it. I gotta admit though, when given the time, Casey can sling it pretty good.

also, not sure when teams are going to figure out they should just stick with the run up the gut. I'm sure Iowa/Wiscy/Minn will. Rutgers was having success of 5-6 yards up the middle, but then started trying to do more read option with that Wildcat guy and had less success as they were testing Nelson/Mathis who are our better/faster DL. Our interior DL is weak. Anyone know what happened to Hutmacher? I think someone mentioned his conditioning was shit, but I thought he held up the middle better than anyone else on this team.

Tackling still not great. Just sucks the numerous times we had a guy for a loss and the guy missed the arm tackle he was trying to do and they'd break free.

alright, enough complaining. feeling good today having won a game i don't think we deserved to win with how bad it looked. but definitely something we needed.

Both the O and D lines have been getting shoved around for years. If it's a coaching thing then it's Zach Duval.

I think it's more of a player thing. You don't start strength and conditioning in August.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

If you practice soft, you play soft. There's not much that can be done about that this season. Hard to undo 4 years of fuckery in a couple of months. Tho, I do think that they are in a better place now than they were a month ago.
Plus, the lack of quality depth on the oline in particular, is glaring. Losing Teddy and N(howeveryouspellit)li is huge. I hope it's something that they can fix thru the portal, short term.

yea, makes sense. not sure you can find good OL in portal. We got Anthony from OkSt and he's about the same as Benhart there at right tackle. we got that Williams from Northern Colorado who i haven't seen much, looking at last depth chart, he isn't even on it so either got hurt or not doing great. got a lot of young guys, best chance is new S&C and better OL coaches imo.

It’s a W and that’s all I care about this year. Style points mean shit.

Also, Anthony Grant is a dude. Really like watching that guy play. He wants to run you over, even watching him block is inspiring.

Beat RB since Ameer

The combination Thompson, Palmer, Grant would be a 'scoring explosion' with a good O-line.

On the bright side Nebraska has won the 4th Q trenches in it's last two games. That's a nice turn around since Northwestern and Georgia Southern dominated them up front on both sides of the ball in the 4th Q.

Keep improving there and these last 6 games will be interesting.

You can't start S&C in August and expect to be good in September.

However, you can start S&C in September and be better come November.

Nov 5th: Minnesota
Nov 12th: @ Michigan
Nov 19th: Wisconsin
Nov 25th: @ Iowa

Nash #72 was in rotation vs Rutgers last night, I saw him out there but unsure how much field time he got.

Coach Joseph said they got one live hitting day this week because they lost a day. Looked like it at times too!

I think they looked a bit better in tackling. Glad they stopped playing flag football at practice.

Williams is hurt. Out another week or two. The Raiola experiment is disasterous. Zero development evident.
Wish they would have brought in Ed O to coach the line.
