TV Series Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon

The new King literally doesn't want to rule and offered to run away.

Again stop inventing narratives that don't exist.
I meant the king in general, not necessarily this king.

those who rule do often care about their people...otherwise you get riots. I think that was a problem when Cercei "ruled" in King's Landing

All those riots they showed on screen during her reign that caused so many problems???

well...yea, I am. Because this is all fictional and all based on what Martin wrote and this world he built.

the character of Rhaenys would not torch them...it's not her way of it, especially after Alicent talked to her. I don't think she has any ill will towards Alicent and her family...but isn't aligned with them usurping the throne like this.
You aren't watching the same show. Alicent tried to get Rhaenys to bend the knee with promises if she would but both understood it would be bad (most likely death if she didn't). Considering Rhaeny's saw the head of house hanging in the courtyard while escaping she knows if caught that is likely her fate.

She burns them to the ground no question.

That's interesting when do you think she should have stuck? I can't remember a time she was actually threatened by anyone.
When could she have struck? How about the times between now and when she was passed for Viserys. All the times Corlys wanted to strike?

Specific to screen time it’s maybe not so much about her not striking, but how she lets the field play around her and picks her path. She’s pragmatic. And a fence sitter. I actually respect it.

And I’m just trying to not to lose that aspect in how stupidly that scene was handled. If she were shown merely fleeing there would have been bitching about why she didn’t just go fry them.

End of the day she saw some possible future advantage to take and decided not to squander it.

How she came to that exact moment is the problem.

TV writer:

Oh, this writer. Sheesh. I saw a quote from this one yesterday explaining the dragon coronation scene. In explaining it the follow up was “what about all the citizens killed” and be answer was basically “citizens don’t matter”.

Fuck you, chick.

I do disagree on that. I saw the same things you call out that should have shaped her decision. It would surely have shaped mine that way, too. But, I am not her.

Again, if they can tie this up nicely in dialogue I will let it all pass. But it was all a hell of a reach just for the visual spectacle and fx budget that needed spending.

And then there's Criston Cole. I'd like to see him go through worse than Theon Greyjoy or the Sloth victim in Se7en did.

What you are describing is the first strike and I'm talking about a defensive strike.

The Greens struck first by stealing the crown (which her family is the line for since her granddaughters are engaged to airs) and putting her family under threat. Totally different deal and at that point she absolutely takes action.

Also add into the equation they were already killing people and she knew it and the situation becomes gross negligence that she didn't kill them.

We have no choice but to let it pass and just ignore the whole scene. I'm not giving up on the series but damn this is always going to be problematic no matter what happens and just didn't have to be this way. It pisses me off they were this sloppy after doing such a great job. Sure it wasn't perfect and writers are entitled to mistakes and lapses but fuck they didn't just jump the shark they ran him over with a bus and backed up for a repeat.

He's the worst character on the show & I hope his death is long & painful.
He and Aegon are tied for me.

I kinda like Aemond. Whenever he and Daemon finally square up, it will be the best episode.

Ser Cristen also sucks. Hopefully Alicent blue balls for awhile before he dies a shitty death.

My gut tells me your opinion of Aemond is soon to change. His character is one that is a "must see" type, though, just like Daemon's is. GRRM wrote Aemond to be the mirror for Daemon. All he did was move the 'd.'

Yes, for you the Greens were usurping the throne and it was a coup against her family and brother. I think she would agree with that.

Now for the “so what?”. Does she really see it that way? The proper heir, who was possibly involved in killing her son. That heirs now uncle/husband was married to her daughter who died struggling with birthing his spawn.

I think Rhaenys showed who she is in that throne room once Visarys came in by stepping forward and now taking Rhaenyras offer. She’s calculating, she plays both sides down the middle. And that’s what she was doing here. It was just highlighted with sloppy fanfare.

I don’t think she holds particular interest to any side, but Driftmarks side. And she’s going to let these two sides go at it and leave herself on the fence and ready to move on with the winner…..”for the better of the realm”…..and Driftmark/her kin.

Or maybe said a more simple way….would she torch Rhaenrya and Daemon if she had them in sight? So why should she torch the new king on stage who, along with brother and sister, are also kin?

I mean, if Cristen likes her feet he may be onto something…..

I don't think Cristen is fucking the queen...

she made a comment that sounded like they were but it was "your love for me as your queen" and I don't know if that means they are fucking...kind of doubt they are

Because the Blacks have offered her grand daughters marriage and her great grandchild will be on the throne.

The Greens will just not kill her if she bends the knee.

Is that really a choice?

How does anyone know for a fact that this is all the Greens will offer?

Yeah, I know that her and Alicent had that discussion. And then Rhaenys spared the lot of them. She has a fleet the Greens need badly too.

She knows what she can get and expect better than that.

Her husband couldn't even get help to defend the steps from the Greens so I'm not sure what you think they can offer she doesn't already have. The Blacks have promised to make her husband's dream of his family sitting on the throne a reality.

There is absolutely no comparison. You guys keep trying to make this thing grey but it's black and white. The granddaughters are betrothed so they will be on dragons fighting for the crown and she might have signed their death warrant and she has to know this. Nothing the Greens promise is even remotely comparable to what has been offered (and delivered) by the Blacks.
