Well, Let's Discuss CFP Rankings For 11/29

Bama needed Michigan to lose to Ohio State. The CFP could have had excuses to put them in over Michigan because of Michigan's OOC schedule. With OSU and Bama out of their CCG's -- Bama isn't leap frogging them with 2 losses, IMO.

Will come down to the Utah/USC game -- if USC loses, OSU is in. If USC wins, OSU is out. I think UGA, Michigan and TCU will be no matter what they do in their CCG's.

If Michigan lost to Ohio State in a close game, they would have the best case to be the first ones in: close loss, on the road, to the #1 or #2 team in the country depending on how the rankings unfolded after.

Much better case than Ohio State's current situation: blowout loss at home. The only thing Ohio State has in its favor is that they only have the 1 loss to Bama's 2. But an argument could be made that Bama's 2 losses were both on the road in close games. Either way, they need one of the teams in front of them to lose or the point is moot.

Michigan played three of the worst teams in all of college football in their OOC. Ohio State played Notre Dame. Michigan wasn't getting the benefit of the doubt this year.

And the final score of the OSU/UM game was bad, but it was a one score game in the 4th quarter. I can't believe as a Michigan fan, I have to talk OSU fans into saying they belong in the CFP. It is like the twilight zone.

What happens if Michigan lost to Purdue in the B1G title game?

Ohio State isn't getting in then, but is Michigan getting in either?

I posted this in a thread but, although I think Georgia is the best team this year, they have not and will not playing a meaningful road game in a tough road environment this season. Let that sink in.

This is why sometimes NFL is better in that you got a 16-game schedule with 32 total teams so you see a quarter to half the league every year and there is a greater understanding of a team's strength.

In college, the schedules are heavily imbalanced to favor certain teams.

Georgia did play @ Miss State who is 8-4 and won heavily so that was probably their toughest road game. The only other tough road game was Missouri and they almost lost that.

This is one reason the 3-6-6 SEC schedule sounds nice.

The B1G is more likely to get 2 teams in than 0 teams.

Ohio State still has a great chance to get in.

I think Georgia, Michigan and TCU could lose and still get in. I think the only game that will change the 4 teams in the CFP is the USC/Utah game. If USC loses, I think it will be Georgia, Michigan, TCU and Ohio State.

I heard some talking heads say they felt like Georgia, Michigan and TCU could still get in after CCG losses if said losses are close/well played games. Reasoning is they’d be considered “good” losses. Not sure I agree but they wouldn’t be “bad” ones either.
Losing to Purdue. Not a good loss. At least my 2 pesos.

Yeah, and as much as I hate to say this, Bama may very well be one of the four best teams in the country. We fall into the trap of comparing them to previous Bama teams instead of comparing them only to other teams THIS year.

I’d love to be able to watch a 12 team playoff this year. I think we’d have mostly close games in the first rounds. Maybe not at the end, but….
I am right there with you on this deal.

TCU is still a little iffy. I can see Alabama getting a push to be in it over a one-loss TCU.

TCU is not getting in if they lose. They are the team the committee will absolutely leave out if given the opportunity too.

The B1G may end up with 0 teams if Michigan lost. That would be used to show that the B1G really isnt that good and Bama would get in over both of us. (assuming TCU and USC both win as well)

Michigan REALLY has no benefit of the doubt clout with the committee.

Not going to happen. Perhaps it would have happened had some of the teams not lost (i.e. Clemson, Tennessee, etc.).

Also Ohio State still has decent wins over Notre Dame and Penn State. I could see Ohio State getting in and Michigan left at home if Michigan losses.

That would cause the greatest meltdown by a fan base youd ever seen if it happened.

I don't think Michigan will lose to Purdue, but it's a more entertaining game than if they were playing Iowa again at least.

Did you just say Michigan, who just beat Ohio State AT Ohio State 45-23, would be left out to put Ohio State into the top 4?

Are you drinking today?

Call me crazy but theyd put Bama in over both of us in that situation.

The B1G would be attacked as "weak" and Purdue proved neither Michigan or Ohio State are really that good (since Michigan lost to them and Ohio State lost to Michigan) neither Michigan or Ohio State would had earned it so they would just default to their old trusty favorite Alabama.

Oh yeah -- no doubt. It'd be real interesting to hear the committee justify it. :pound:

Not happening. The CFP would do cartwheels to get both Michigan and Ohio State into the playoffs. Why? Because there are only two college programs who average more viewers per game than Alabama. Ohio State and Michigan. They'd love to find a way to get OSU, UM and Alabama in the CFP, as that'd give them the top 3 most watched teams.

Michigan/Ohio State averaged over 17 million viewers this past weekend, with a high of 19.6 million.

UGA vs Bama in the semi final is a bigger ratings cow than UGA vs a Michigan team that just got beat by a 8-4 Purdue team in the B1G title game (and also a Michigan team that UGA steamrolled last year).........

TCU is not getting in if they lose.

The committee is probably really hoping they lose. Theyll leave them out the second it becomes possible.
I disagree ... they are a lock along with UM and UGA. No way a one-loss team that didn't play championship week gets in before an undefeated regular season team. This is barring a really bad loss. A normal loss, they are in.

USC has a loss, but they are also a brand so I think they are already in. I think the committee is going to go 4 conferences this year.

I think tOSU will be 5th, Bama 6th. Neither can move. That means the only thing we are playing for this weekend is seeding and USC or whoever is ranked 5th Tuesday night.

Okay so I am curious and just putting this out there. Beating an 8-4 Notre Dame is a good win. Is losing to an 8-4 Notre Dame a good loss? So, if Michigan beats 8-4 Purdue it isn’t a good win, right? Is losing to 8-4 Purdue a good loss? The committee will think Michigan sucks if they lose to Purdue even after beating Ohio State at their place. Could you imagine Michigan, TCU, and Southern Cal losing? Damn.
