2022/2023 Hot Stove

I guess the per year isn’t nuts. Just seems weird to be giving a guy you’re looking to be a 4/5 guy that amount and for 4 years. Not the worst deal I’ve ever seen, but seems quite the stretch.
Saw it mentioned that by already signing Turner, they were trying to avoid signing another guy in the qualifying offer pool and facing significant penalties. So they probably overpaid in salary and years to not lose a #1 pick, a couple million in international money, and maybe a few other penalties.

I would think that 3/$45 would be "ideal". I think it's more than he should have gotten, but it's not blowing up the market.

Jameson Taillon got 4/$68. Might just be the market this year. I think Taillon is more of an overpay than Walker.

I didn't expect him to go anywhere else
Yeah. I thought MAYBE there was a small chance he'd go to the Giants to be close to home, but fully expected him to re-sign with the Yankees.

third times the charm.

Fuck. Well, at least he went to a west coast NL team. 11 years is a lot but the AAV isn't insane. I'm kinda glad the Sox didn't match that but I will certainly miss him, hope he does well in SD.

I'm more disgusted with the fact that Betts made it to arbitration three times. Devers is 26 and they've yet to extend him. They could have given Xander a long term contract a long time ago. They never locked up Lester to a long term contract either. This franchise has done a pretty shitty job with holding onto homegrown players.

seems pretty reasonable.
