PAC News

Arizona would be a nice get for the B12 for what Yormark appears to be doing. I doubt they come until/if UO and uDub bolt to the B1G at some point.
but why tho?
what does Arizona bring?

19 12th

and people will be like oh but basketball. no championships since the 90s. yes they have been winning the conference and conference tourney more than other schools but they also hold the distinction of being eliminated by the most double digit seeds

other than Utah Big 12 is chasing the bottom and acting like they doing something.

They bring a name and they’re worth the 32mm that Big 12 needs to make it work.

If we are all honest the Big 12 adding PAC teams is all about pecking order and trying to move up the food chain.

If the Big 12 gets the 4 corners and the PAC has to replace them with San Diego State, UNLV and Fresno State type schools they are improving their brand and diluting the PAC.

If the Big 12 takes the 4 corners and the B1G takes Oregon and Washington then they’ve removed the PAC from the board altogether.

In 2036 I fully expect ACC schools to bounce and what will be left will be inferior to the B12 line up. These guys don’t just want a Colorado or Arizona they want the third spot behind the SEC and B1G and playing the long game to get there.

I don’t blame them it’s not a bad strategy.

Adding Mountain west teams dilutes the Pac no more than all the AAC teams to the BigXII. Would the get the 32? ESPN increases but only to be able to pay the new schools their share of that deal. Fox does not so either the new schools dont get that portion or the Fox money gets diminished to all. so either the new schools are only getting about 20 or everyone goes down to as little as 28M

I think you are delusional there.

Cincinnati
UCF
BYU

All decent pickups and better than any of the choices I have seen mentioned for the PAC. You have a decent argument with the pickup of Houston so I'll give you that one.

Winsipedia - SMU Mustangs vs. UCF Knights football series history

Winsipedia - SMU Mustangs vs. Cincinnati Bearcats football series history

BYU way out shines on both SDSU and SMU but fresno holds pretty well. people are more hung up on recent history for cinci and ucf

I was just reading this. Seems like they're trying to get out of the conference prior to the exit fee ballooning to 34MM from the current 16MM. They're even talking about a payment plan. And all this probably on a contingency that the Pac12 might offer them a spot.

Crazy times,

How good a team is doesn't make one damn bit of difference and hasn't since this realignment shit started. Exhibit 1A - Maryland and Rutgers joining the B1G. Come on in. Your football team is the bomb.

What a complete clusterfuck the PAC has become and it all started when tejas toyed with them in attempt to get further concessions from their BIG 12 brethren. Of whom they ultimately wound up shitting on anyway.

Should the PAC be included in the meme below? tejas is the common denominator in each case.
Look out SEC, the donghorns are on their way to manipulate you. :dhd:

The announcement came late in 2012. Rutgers was coming off multiple 9 win seasons and were one of the last Big East teams looking for another conference after finding themselves lookin at AAC. Maryland was very mid to bottom ACC. Maryland basketball was doing well though and the women won a championship in 06 and has continued to do well since.
on the other hand TCU and Utah 100% were invited based on how good they were.

The quality of Maryland and Rutgers football program (or any other sport) didn’t have one damn thing to do with them getting into the B1G. The ONLY reason the B1G was willing to take them was because of the amount of money they could bring to the table via the number of television sets in their footprint. Anyone that believes it was for any other reason is naive as hell.

Exactly.

The Big 10 knew that BTN would be bundled in the cable, satellite, and streaming services.

A prevailing thought is Yormarks trying to get a bunch of Basketball powers together to prevent the P2 from breaking away by not allowing the P2 from being in the NCAA basketball tournament should they breakaway.

Arizona is by far the best basketball team in the PAC once UCLA left. That’s why it’d be a huge get imo.

The perfect option for the B12 is grabbing just 2 (Arizona and Utah) while hoping the B1G grabs UO and uDub thus severely downgrading the conference. Then the B12 can wait for the ACC to implode and go after some of the leftover scraps.

Yes, I’m sure you’ll be skeptical. But honestly it makes sense as to why Yormark may want Memphis and keeps pushing for UConn.

yes i have seen that too but the problem with it is that with say 20 schools is if the standings fall as Kansas, Houston, UConn, Arizona, Kansas State, Memphis, Pitt, Baylor, TCU, NC state
when do those former name schools like memphis or Baylor just become mid teams.

No doubt there will be some drop off, but the hope is enough good teams can win enough big games (OOC especially) that perception is we just beat each other up. See this past years B12 basketball conference.

Dude the SEC and B1G could break away offer the Big12 and ACC a piece of a new tournament and 4 conferences would split almost a billion dollars because the NCAA March Madness would be done. All the money schools would be in the new format.

It wouldnt even be that hard to pull off.
