Is college football in danger of losing popularity

i never understood college football fans, and probably because of where i live....

but not every clemson fan, actually went to clemson, or has ties to the school. just an example, but most probably didnt get out of the 8th grade. but theyre diehard, bleed colors, fans.

i dont get it. how can you be a fan of a school you have no ties to other than regional? im a holy cross fan because my mother taught there and i grew up in the city (and i played basketball with many HC players). im a fan of williams college because i went there (i.e "the biggest little game in America") and played for a year.

ps im not trying to be ignorant, im trying to understand.
Same reason people have a favorite pro team where you couldn't have gone there. If you college football and didn't go to college, you have to choose a team at some point.

also beat Kansas State as champs in Fiesta
win over texas in Alamo
going back to see more match ups includes
win over Oklahoma State in Holiday
That game in Eugene against Oklahoma still a win.

LOL because 0regon loses against any team that has a pulse outside the PAC...... you lost to fucking nebraska and barely won against nebraska in years we were complete trash...... that speaks volumes.... wins over trash teams losses agasint any team with a pulse.....

new to sports huh?

FSU has been literally shitty toilet paper (ass trash) the past few years and I’ve still watched pretty much every game for a long long time. Even with Willie T the only game I missed was Miami and after that he was fired

i still dont see why someone has to have ties to something to be a fan of it
it just makes sense, i dunno. local radio show has a thing they do on CFB fans, same sort of "we dont get it" mentality.

and im not trying to piss anyone off here. sorry if it comes across that way.

When PC was at USC everyone said the Pac was USC and everyone else. Now you are saying that the Pac isnt competitive?
Pac has always been the most competitive among itself. you never really know who is going to win. even when USC was wining and was always the pick they shared it like 3 or 4 times and there was always a team 1 game off from taking it from them.

No one really buys Oregon? Decent?
in the last decade they have 2 Championship game appearances and been close other times.
they have wins over the Big 10 champ and runner up, ACC champ, Big XII champ.

Pac 12 has like 1 bad year in bowls and a shit commish and now everyone just keeps repeating the same thing about the conference.
but like you said the same teams win over and over in other leagues.
if it werent for Clemson the ACC would be an after thought.
without Oklahoma you might have another team get in there but it woulndt be the same team 2 years in row.

Actually Pac12 was more competitive in the 1990s than the Pete Carroll Era. In the late Pete Carroll it was more competitive because Oregon and Stanford were on the rise and other teams were doing better. Two teams that continue to flop are Arizona State and UCLA.

no, i attended my first nfl game in 1980. why do you ask?
Dude, CFB is all over TV.. Most kids grow up playing and watching sports.. How is NCAA sports any different from watching pro sports? I am a huge Steelers fan since around 86/87.. I saw them on TV vs the Dolphins as a little kid and from that point on I was a steelers fan. No one in my immediate family is one, yet my mom took me to many games vs oilers in the Astrodome.

The only connection needed is the person and the team/school they like. Not sure how hard it is to really understand, are steelers fans only suppose to be in the Pitt area or only if they are steel workers?

A kid growing up in Temple TX can't be an avid Longhorn fan because he grew up watching them on TV?

i didnt say "ncaa sports"

i said "college football"

and im just trying to understand the logic of cheering for a school that you didnt attend. dont go pro sports on me. immaterial.

im just trying to understand how larry in oklahoma is a diehard sooner fan, if he dropped out in the 7th grade.

maybe a bad example.

really? so undefeated ACC champs Florida State who won the NC the year before and hadnt lost in like 24 or so games?
Wisconsin the BIG 10 west champ?
11-2 Michigan State?
Big XII champs Kansas State?
Big Ten Champs Wisconsin
#13 ranked Oklahoma State
No pulses?

pro sports comparison makes perfect sense. its regional. If i were a Miami fan it would make perfect sense to question it. but I was born and raised in Eugene but went to a small college. why woulndt i be a Duck fan? growing up its all i really knew of sports and they sucked in the 80s

makes sense, and thats kinda what i thought. i use boise as an example. nothing there but boise football and potatoes.

whats the difference between sports? Why do you have to attend or go to a school for you to be a die hard fan? Bomani Jones is a die hard UT fan yet went to a college in GA. But if you have been watching sports since the 80's.. and you still don't understand it, you most likely never will.. but hey be cool and flash your ring to put the t-shirt fans down.

lets also not forget the years Oregon played Nebraska they were a 4 win and 7 win team themselves
