UM folds ... accepts punishment

So they accept a bunch of unqualified students who have no interest in finishing a degree but at least they are not TOO unqualified?

They accept a bunch of students who meet the minimums, and reject a bunch that don't (something almost no other school does).

Which is...bad. But also, doesn't seem to indicate that he had any prior knowledge of this situation. Cooperating with the NCAA is our only way out of this. Pissing them off further is bad.

Good thing you have a head coach who is such a people person

I'm not even talking just receivers. Michigan doesn't, and hasn't, been very successful at getting top 100 talent across the board, even when we're sending kids to the NFL like crazy, because we can't get them into school and/or aren't paying them like other schools (especially when it was illegal). I'm sure there are other factors, but this is a very well documented one.
Until very recently you've never had a sustained period of time where you were "sending kids to the NFL like crazy", so of course very few blue chip guys want to play for you. Your lack of elite success also has something to do with that. The whole myth about kids wanting to go to michigan but having to go elsewhere because they "can't get in" is fucking comical. If a blue chip kid wants in at michigan, you're letting him in. You've had plenty of athletes come through there who can barely tie their own shoes throughout the years, don't give me that shit.

Put yourself in the shoes of the well qualified individual who gets waitlisted or turned down every year so that UM can admit in their place a 4th string defensive back who barely meets the minimum academic standard and has no plan to pursue/complete a degree. It may be "better than most" but it's still not the right way.

As I said this isn't just a UM problem, of course. And the money means that it will never be right.

Dont' agree. I don't know what you mean by "very" recently but, this is 7 straight years of pumping out NFL talent.

23: 9 picks
22: 5 picks
21: 8 picks
20: 10 picks
19: 5 picks
18: 2 picks
17: 11 picks

Even during the worst 7 year period in our history, we were still averaging 3-4 picks per class. Certainly a long enough period of time where that should have paid off in terms of top 100 talent, and it really hasn't.

If a blue chip kid wants to come to Michigan, he will only get in if he meets the minimum requirements. There is no movement there. It's why Worthy is playing at texas right now. I can't remember his name now, but we lost out on a borderline 4/5 star RB recruit a while back for the same reason.

I'm not sure it particularly matters. UM is one of very few athletic departments that fund themselves. It's not as if funding goes to these kids that otherwise would have been spent elsewhere. If anything, they're part of the reason why UM is so well funded.

You don't think it "matters" that an academic institution is doing this (turning down more qualified individuals to admit students with no intention of working towards a degree) just because those students who aren't real students don't cost more?

This thread has gotten where the same thing is repeated 100 times per page 18 pages.

We may have to close all these threads for mental health reasons.

I don't think anyone gets turned down in place of football players. And I think if you were to evaluate this in any measurable way, because of UM's standards, itw ould put UM near the top of the list (along with schools like Stanford) in terms of getting football players accepted to the school.

You mean you don't want to just go all the way and put yourself above Stanford? :noidea:

So you're being disingenuous. Got it. The reasonable leap based on circumstantial evidence is that he was using stolen information through in person scouting to give to coaches during games. The unreasonable leap is that because he was standing by them and giving them this information, that those people knew where it came from. There's in fact no circumstantial evidence to support that claim.
Zip it ... you don't know what you are talking about. You are using a bunch of words that you don't know the meaning of. Move onto other things you have been wrong about.

He's certifiable at this point.

JCF ... SMH.

Michigan is now an embarrassment to anyone who has ever embraced denialism and refused to accept responsibility for their actions.
I have some friends who had kids that went there. I am having to remind myself the people here are not the norm. That said, UM and their admin and alumni haven't done themselves any favors here. I have a different opinion of UM since this started - not because of the substance, but the way they have reacted to it.

Harbaugh won't be fired. 0% chance.

Harbaugh will either bolt for the NFL or get extended by Michigan. That is, unless there's direct evidence that links him to this.
Goodness, now I think he will. You've been wrong on every other point you've argued in the last 3 weeks. Poor Harbaugh.
