Electric Cars

Consumer Reports

Electric vehicles have nearly 80% more problems and are largely more unreliable than traditional gas-powered cars or hybrid vehicles, according to Consumer Report's annual car reliability survey.

Plug-in hybrids, overall, have 146% more problems than traditional internal-combustion engine models, with several — such as the Audi Q5 and Chrysler Pacifica — rated as less reliable than their conventional counterparts. However, the Toyota RAV4Prime and Kia Sportage scored "well above average," according to Consumer Reports.

“PHEVs are sort of like an EV and a conventional car rolled into one, so by their nature they have more things that can go wrong with them,” Fisher said.

Let's see what this does to Tesla's stock price.
It sounds like a system update, which I thought you could do from your home. Guess they found ways for the autopilot feature to perform better. I am all for this fix.

I imagine it's an annoyance for Tesla owners, but in the end they will be happy they are making the cars smarter

Ok, he didn't "hate" it. My bad for the misquote, but he "politically" admitted to the challenges with driving one. I don't get the impression he was that impressed.

When I read it he was critical of the infrastructure. Charging was the issue. Whether they work out or not I dont know but like when gasoline car first came around the gas stations were an issue. More investment in infrastructure is necessary to give these a fair shake.

According to Car & Driver, the F150 Lightening under full towing load will have a range of 100 miles or less, making it quite useless as a towing vehicle, and god help you if you want to use the heater at the same time.

Lithium/Cobalt EV's will end up in the landfill of driving history. The next generation battery car will use a Solid State battery which does not rely on lithium, gets 700 miles and can charge to full in 15 minutes. It's years away though and will be god awful expensive. The next possibility is hydrogen which is equally promising but also expensive Nope, I think ICE vehicles will be around for some time unless some idiot progressive politician decides to tank transportation altogether. The California doofus springs to mind.

Of course they will, horses are still used for transportation.

More research, more investment is needed as with any new technology.

There’s a cybertruck in town here. It’s honestly even more weird in person. I caught it at night and thought it was a Rivian at first glance with the weird straight line lights. It really fucking zips. Seeing it in person, I don’t know how I feel. Part of me thought it was cool, for the novelty aspect and the fact it looked fast as shit. The other part of me thought it was ugly as fuck and dumb.

Expensive dumb toy of the rich. They'll get driven by their owners 2-3 times in the first months of use, and then collect dust. Maybe if we're lucky, someone will make a movie about a time-traveling pickup truck, and the Cybertruck will get featured in it.

I have yet to see one in person...but keeping an eye open, for sure.

The novelty part of it is a big appeal to see one, for sure.

Definitely possible. The people who drive Rivians around here really fucking want you to know about it. You can’t go a day without seeing one. I’m half convinced no one actually owns them, the company just pays people to drive loops around the city in them or some shit.
