Big 12 thread

Oh man, fuck that. Is this Kansas' fault for not being organized with the reno or did something unforeseen happen?

Their stadium was in bad shape. Last time I was at A KU game in Lawrence there were chunks of concrete laying on the ground under the bleachers.

Not a good feeling when sitting there.

I hope it's great once it's finished. They seem to have a good thing going there finally, it'd be cool to see them be a contender.

"Construction on the first phase will begin at the conclusion of the 2023 football season, and will be completed by the beginning of the 2025 season. Kansas Football will continue to play at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium during construction and will have reduced capacity for the 2024 season. Fans are encouraged to purchase season tickets for the 2023 season to have the opportunity to be in the stadium for the 2024 season."

They must have changed their minds. I'm guessing they didn't realize the basic infrastructure of the stadium was crumbling as bad as it is.

I kid you not, the last time I was there we commented on (hand sized) chunks of concrete laying on the ground under the bleachers. You could look up and see where they'd fallen off. "Watch your head".

That's unbelievable. I get that it's a basketball school but damn.

BTW 50 miles to go to Arrowhead and watch the game is nothing.
I spent a few weeks in Lawrence working about 8 years ago. Many of the people I met commuted from Lawrence to KC to work.

Yeah but they weren't going to work and drinking for 4-6 hours. At least I wouldn't think they were.

Looks like they indeed decided it was in such bad shape ( a major safety issue with crumbling concrete) that they needed to tear it down and start anew.

Holy shit, don't see that every day.

We were sitting in the endzone bleachers on the right and we'd entered the gate under them going into the game.
That's where we noticed the chunks of concrete and were like 'WTF?'.

We'd decided to road-trip to Lawrence on a whim and didn't even have tickets.
iirc we parked in the front yard of one of those houses for $10 and they sold us our tickets for $10. Our walk to the gate was less than half a block.

The stadium was clad in red. LOL

Speak for yourself
When I was a principal I had a teacher that I was pretty sure was hitting the sauce. But I never could catch her in the act or even really impaired. In fact, she was a much better teacher when I thought she had hit it than when she hadn’t! And the students never suspected anything and really liked her and learned. Go figure.

She got married and left before I could prove anything.

I mean it sucks if you're a college student that wants to go and not worry about taking a 50 mile Uber. I've also heard Lawrence is an underrated college town. I used to have a client in Chicago that was a KU alum and he loved it there.
a KU alum loving Lawerence?? No way...

I mean, there are people who don't outwardly love the town they went to college in. It was entirely unprompted, I'll say that.

My experience in the few weeks I spent there working is that Lawrence is the type of town that rolls up the sidewalks at 5pm.

True story it’s not all it’s cracked up to be when thinking about it.

And regardless if you’re drinking anything or not, your wife is always going to think you are and accuse of such if she’s mad. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME

They should just play their games at Union High School in Tulsa. That stadium is better than their current one anyways.

Meh. Kansas could very well be the 2022 TCU of the Big 12. Leipold's got them on a roll.
(2-10), (6-7), and (9-4) with a Top 25 ranking.

They're gonna need a shoehorn to get peeps into Children's Mercy Park for non-conference games at capacity of just 18,500.

Their Big 12 games at Arrowhead should draw pretty good. Especially with the troja-clones making the trip from Ames.
Iowa St travels well.

At Arrowhead...

Sept 28: TCU
Oct 19th: Houston
Nov 9th: Iowa St
Nov 23rd Colorado

The Iowa St game being an old Big 8 rival will likely push sell-out numbers. Iowa St fans will be into watching the clones play in an NFL venue.

Hopefully KC learned their lesson from the 90's Kick Off Classic between Nebraska and Oklahoma St.
The traffic jams on the highways from every direction around Arrowhead were 3 miles long as they tried to get vehicles through the gate of the parking lot.
There were people out on the highway outside of their vehicles playing catch football, tossing Frisbee, etc. Shit didn't move for 10 minutes at a time or longer and that was multiple times.
If we'd had 20 cases of beer in the back we probably could have paid for the entire trip. LOL
