Nowadays a bunch. Saban said many of the backups on those type teams transfer because they know they won't get as much playing time. And unless they have starter vacancy, they have a hard time attracting transfer portal kids also because of lack of probable playing time. My heart doesn't bleed for them at all. That's what they get for getting such good starters.

So many of the freshman that don't play transfer out, so you have to look at the transfer portal rankings as well

It's a numbers game. A 5 star doesn't mean the kid will be good, so you get as many as you can. The ones that don't win the job transfer out. Just how the system works now.

maybe. Even winning teams see a lot of talent leave if they had a lot of talent come in year after year.

Well for starters the transfer window opens the same day signing day happens, and not a lot of kids who will transfer are talking about it. But all the kids who will sign are talking about it now.

Thus, we are talking about incoming fish as opposed to transfer rankings.
